----- OBITUARY -----
Victor F. McKinney
Victor McKinney of this city was almost instantly killed last evening, while attempting to catch a freight train at Webster for Britton.
McKinney with his friend H. J. McBellen, was going to work on a farm near Britton, the job having already been obtained.
The two lads boarded a box car on the Milwaukee at Aberdeen intending to get off at Andover and take the branch line to Britton, but for some reason they did not leave the train at Andover and were carried on to Webster, before the train stopped.
Upon arriving at Webster they found that another train was just leaving for Andover, and that it was the last one of the evening, so they made a run for it, attempting to get on.
In the effort, McKinney slipped and one or more cars passed over his body, badly mutilating it, and cutting off both legs. Reports are that he died at the Peabody hospital at Webster.
The young man was 16 years and three months of age, at the time of his death, and was living with relatives on North Kline street this city. He has an aunt and two uncles in Aberdeen, J. A. Price and William Price. His mother died when he was but a small boy and his father lives in Rochester, N.Y. He has two sisters living in Rochester and more relatives in Alberta, Canada.
The remains will be brought to Aberdeen this evening. Funeral arrangements will be made later.
Funeral services for the late Victor McKinney will be held from the home of J. E. Delp, 109 North Kline street, Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Presbyterian Church at 2:30 p.m. Rev. D. M. Batt of Huron will conduct. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery. Aberdeen Daily News, Aug. 22, 1924.
