She married Frederick Lawrence Hawkes, son of Henry Hawkes and Matilda Gilbert, April 27, 1929, in Cobourg, Ontario and had one child:

Gertrude L. Wilson Hawkes died July 7, 1974, aged 63 years, in Toronto, Ontario and Frederick L. Hawkes died August 18, 1978, aged 79 years, in Mississauga, Ontario and are interred at Sanctuary Park Cemetery.

Frederick L. Hawkes, beloved husband of Ruth. Loving father of Patricia and her husband Wayne Hutchinson, Karen and her husband Nick Munroe and Douglas. “Grandpa” to Erin and Jeffrey.
