1842 ~ 1917
The death of Mr. Thomas Ranson, aged 75 years, 3 months and 10 days, took place at the family residence, Minden Village, at 3:30 Monday, May 28, 1917.
Mr. Ranson was one of the very first settlers in this district, having moved with his father’s family to Anson township some 56 years ago. He later chose a wife in the person of Miss Sarah Ann Mortimer, who assisted her faithful husband for many years and while a large farm was cleared and a comfortable home erected, in the township of Lutterworth, where Mrs. Ranson passed away nine years ago in 1908.
The next year Mr. Ranson and the remaining members of his family moved to the village. Deceased remained in fair health until about four weeks ago, up to which time he attended to various duties, and it was a surprise to his neighbors to learn of his serious illness. He was a kind and indulgent father, a good neighbor and citizen. He had been for years an Elder in the Presbyterian church, and lived an exemplary life. In politics he was a Conservative.
He is survived by three sons and three daughters. The sons are Andrew of the old home, Lutterworth, Robert of Minden, and Thomas of Stanmore, Alberta. The daughter’s are Mrs. William Wright, of Everett, Ontario, and the Misses Catherine and Sarah, at home. Mr. James Ranson, an elder brother of deceased, resides with the family here, while William Ranson, a younger brother, is a resident of Lindsay, Ontario. The funeral took place on Wednesday to the family plot in Minden Cemetery. Rev. G. C. Grant, of the Methodist church, conducting the services, in absence of a Presbyterian minister. The funeral was under the auspices of the Loyal Orange Association, of which deceased was a member since early manhood. Lindsay Post, June 8, 1917.

Andrew Mortimer
October 29, 1811 ~ August 29, 1883
Another old and respected settler of the township of Anson has passed away, August 29, 1883, Andrew Mortimer, in his 73rd year. His remains were followed to the grave on Thursday last by a very large concourse of sympathizing friends and neighbours. The funeral cortege starting from his late residence proceeded to the Episcopal church, Minden, where services were conducted by the incumbent, Rev. J. Jones, who improved the occasion by a most appropriate address, after which the solemn procession reformed and proceeded to the cemetery, where brotherly hands feelingly deposited all that was mortal of their late friend and brother in their last earthly resting place. After the beautiful service of the church of England had been concluded the brethren of the Orange Order formed around the open grave and performed the impressive ceremony of the Order, each member in succession depositing a memento of his brotherly affection on the coffin as he passed in silent reverence the foot of the grave. The large attendance and subdued bearing of those present at the funeral testified most strongly to the respect in which the deceased was held by the entire community here and the sympathy entertained for his sorrowing relatives. Lindsay Victoria Warder, Sept. 7, 1883.
