----- MARRIAGE -----

RansonHughes

One of the most pleasing events of the season took place Wednesday afternoon, October 13, 1909, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hughes, Sr., Scotch line, Anson, when their daughter Margaret Hughes was married to Mr. Andrew Ranson, of Minden. The Rev. T. A. Nind, Anglican clergyman, officiated.

The bride looked charming in a dress of pale blue voile trimmed with allover lace and white silk appliqué. She was attended by her sister Miss Nellie Hughes, who looked very pretty in a dress of pale blue silk mull, trimmed with white lace and insertion. The groom was ably supported by his cousin, Mr. Robert Ranson, of Lindsay.

After the ceremony the guests, numbering over a hundred, repaired to the dinning-room to partake of a sumptuous repast. The numerous, beautiful and costly presents displayed, showed the respect and esteem in which both bride and groom are held in the vicinity. A reception was held in the evening. Lindsay Watchman-Warder, Oct. 21, 1909.

There passed away on Friday, October 23, 1925 a much beloved resident of this vicinity in the person of Margaret Ranson, wife of Andrew Ranson, at her home in Lutterworth Twp., while in her 44th year.

The late Mrs. Ranson had never enjoyed good health for the past four or five years but she was always a patient and uncomplaining sufferer. It was three weeks before her death that she was finally confined to her bed, but she never gave up hope and right up to the last was making plans for taking up their residence in Minden for the winter.

She was born in Anson Twp., her maiden name being Margaret Hughes, and lived all her life in this vicinity, where she endeared herself to all who knew her. She was married in 1909 and shortly afterwards took up their residence in Lutterworth Twp., where she resided up to the time of her death. Besides her husband, to whom the sympathy of the community goes out, she leaves to mourn her loss her stepmother, Mrs. Agnes Hughes, and three brothers and two sisters, namely, James of Minden Twp., John of Anson Twp., Robert of Whitney, Mrs. Bruce Hope of Horizon, Sask., and Miss Alice Hughes of home. The funeral was held on Sunday afternoon to Minden Cemetery and in spite of the condition of the weather a large number of friends were present to pay their last respects. Rev. W. Parker, her pastor, was in charge of the service.

Flowers were received from the following: Broken Column, Husband and Ranson family; wreath, Mrs. Wm. Ranson and Mrs. Geo. Baldwin; Mrs. A. Hay;  Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Mortimer; Mrs. Snell and Gertrude, Mr. and Mrs. E. Windover; Mr. Frank Welch. Lindsay Post, Oct. 30, 1925.
