Emily Laura Ranson  (1905 ~ 1983)

 

2.2.3.2. Second child of Robert H. Ranson and Alma M. Leary, Emily Laura Ranson, was born February 17, 1905, in Anson Twp., Haliburton Co., Ontario.

  She married Adelbert MennoBillAdams, son of William Alfred Adams and Elizabeth Ann Reynolds, September 25, 1933, in Minden, Ontario and had two children:

  • (2.2.3.2.2)  Robert William  (1937 ~ 2020) 

 

  E. Laura Ranson Adams died March 30, 1986, aged 81 years and A. Menno BillAdams died July 28, 1983, aged 78 years in St. Catharines, Ontario. Cremation.

A pretty and quiet wedding took place on Monday, September 25, 1933, at the home of the bride when Miss Laura Ranson youngest daughter, of Mr. Robert Ranson, was united in marriage to Mr. William Adams, of Toronto, Rev. V. Zufelt officiating.

  The bride who looked charming in a frock of dark blue was attended by her sister, Irene, who wore a frock somewhat similar and the groom was supported by his brother. After their wedding trip the young couple will reside in Toronto. Lindsay Post, Sept. 26, 1933.

E. Laura Ranson Adams

On Sunday, March 30, 1986 at the Hotel Dieu Hospital in her 82nd year; Laura Emily Adams, beloved wife of the late Adelbert (Bill) Adams; loving mother of Robert Adams and wife Eleanor of Niagara Falls and David Adams and wife Sandra of Scarborough; dear grandmother of Scott Adams, and Susan and Peter Dulis all of Scarborough; also survived by two great grandchildren. 

  Mrs. Adams is at the Butler Funeral Home, 33 Duke Street. Service in the Chapel on Wednesday, April 2 at 11 a.m. Cremation to follow. Visitation Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Oncology Unit (Hotel Dieu Hospital) or Greater Niagara General Hospital would be appreciated by the family. St. Catharines Standard, Mar. 31, 1986.

 

A. Menno BillAdams

December 9, 1904 ~ July 28, 1983

Suddenly at the Hotel Dieu Hospital on Thursday July 28, 1983, Adelbert MennoBillAdams of 363 Geneva St., in his 79th year, beloved husband of Laura Ranson, dear father of David Adams of Toronto, Bob Adams of Niagara Falls, dear brother of Mrs. Gertrude Guild of Orillia; Grandfather of Scott Adams and Mrs. Susan Dulis both of Toronto. Predeceased by a brother Joseph Adams.

  Mr. Adams was a member of the Victory Masonic Lodge #563 Chatham, Ont., a member of the Westminister United Church, Past member of the St. Catharines Kiwanis Club, retired manager of the Canadian National Telegraph Office, St Catharines. He was employed for 43 years with the Canadian national railways. Mr. Adams is at the Butler Funeral Home - 33 Duke in St. Catharines, service will be in the Chapel on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. Creamation to follow, donations to The Cancer Society would be appreciated. William A. Adams

June 5, 1867 ~ December 13, 1957

Following but one week of illness with pneumonia, the death of William Adams occurred on Friday, December 13, 1957, in Toronto, at the good age of over 90 years.

  Born on June 5, 1867, at Port Elgin, Ontario, he entered the employ of the former G.T.R. when a young man and had worke don that railway, later the Canadian National, at Colwell, Alliston, Bradford and last at Shanty Bay, from where he retired in 1934 after long service as a section foreman, for 23 years at that point.

  The late William Adams was of the United Church and was a Conservative in political views. His wife, the former Elizabeth Ann Reynolds, predeceased him in 1939, and of their family surviving are one daughter, Mrs. L. R. Guild (Gertrude) of Toronto, and two sons, Adelbert Menno Adams of St. Catharines and Hovey (Joe) Adams of Toronto; also grandsons and newphews.

  The funeral on Monday, December 16, was from the Pethick Funeral Home, with service conducted by Rev. Cecil I. Brenn of Central United Church and with relatives and friends attending.

  Interment was in Barrie Union Cemetery and pallbearers were two grandsons, David and Robert Adams, and four nephews, Lou Hockridge, Bert Stewart, Samuel Coulter and Alvin Hubbert. Barrie Examiner, Dec. 23, 1957.

 

Elizabeth A. Reynolds Adams

December 11, 1867 ~ April 2, 1939

Mrs. William A. Adams died at her home in Shanty Bay on Sunday, April 2, 1939, after a lengthy illness. On December 7 last she was seized with a stroke of paralysis and was removed to the Royal Victoria Hospital, Barrie, where she spent several weeks. After returning home, she seemed somewhat better but the improvement proved only temporary.

   Elizabeth Ann Reynolds Adams was born near Thompsonville, Tecumseth Township, and was in her 73rd year. She was a daughter of Thomas Reynolds and Elizabeth McFadden, who were among the early settlers in that neighbourhood. She and Mrs. Adams were married at Allandale in 1893 by Rev. Mr. Wilson, Methodist minister. They resided at Allandale, Toronto, Colwell, Alliston, Bradford and Wyebridge before going 27 years ago to Shanty Bay, where Mr. Adams was section foreman on the G.T.R. until his retirement after 41 years with the company.

   Mrs. Adams was a member of the Methodist (later United) church, deeply interested and active in the work of the congregation at Shanty Bay, having been secretary-treasurer of the Ladies’ Aid from its organization up till a year ago. Possessed of many fine qualities, she was held in the highest regard by all who knew her.

   For five years she had been the loyal and faithful correspondent for The Examiner at Shanty Bay. She will be much missed at the annual gathering of the correspondents.

   Mr. Adams survives with a family of three: Gertrude of Orillia and Menno and Hovey of Toronto; also a sister and two brothers, Mrs. Richard Hockridge of Barrie, William Reynolds of Winnipeg and Addison Reynolds of the old homestead in Tecumseth. There are two grandchildren.

   The funeral was held on Tuesday afternoon and was largely attended. Rev. D. Roy Gray, Guthrie, took the services at the home and at Barrie Union Cemetery. Six neighbours acted as pall-bearers: Victor and Palmer Hart, Alex. and Hugh Graham, Fred Day and Wm. Patterson.

   Among the many beautiful flowers were those from Shanty Bay Women’s Institute, United Church W.A., Automatic Dept., C.N.T., Toronto, Elizabeth Arden Salon, Toronto; Alumnae, Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital; publishers, and correspondents of The Barrie Examiner.

   Those from a distance attending the funeral were: John Fellows, Mrs. Moore, Mrs. John Rose, Miss Laura Thorne, Mrs. John Adams and son, Mr. and Mrs. D. Jackson, Walter Kirby and daughter, Mrs. Albert Reid and Mrs. Cummings and daughter, Toronto; Mr. and Mrs. John Woods, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Walker, Mrs. McKay, Bradford; Mr. and Mrs. Chas. McFadden, Jas. McFadden, Alex. McFadden and Mrs. Rowley, Elmvale; Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Reynolds, Mrs. Robt. Street, Mrs. A. T. Carter, Orillia, and many others. Barrie Examiner, Apr. 6, 1939.
