John Mortimer
October 17, 1846 ~ August 9, 1919
The death of Mr. John Mortimer, aged 74 years, took place at Carbon, Alberta, on Saturday, August 9, 1919, after an illness of but three days, says the Minden Echo.
Mr. Mortimer was one the the early settlers near Minden, Ontario where he was much respected. After the death of his wife, in 1912, his home having been broken up, he decided years ago to go West, where his sons had settled. His hands became stiffened with rheumatism and he was not seriously ill but three days before his passing.
He is survived by fours sons, namely Robert, Dean, Mack and James, the latter having but lately returned from overseas, and it was he who accompanied the body of his father on the long journey from Alberta.
Mrs. James Ross, of Toronto, and Mrs. Wellington Ross, of Calgary, Alta., are sisters of the deceased.
The body was brought through and interred in the family plot at Minden, Ontario, the funeral taking place on Tuesday, from the residence of his nephew, Mr. Robert Ranson, to St. Paul’s church for service, Rev. G. E. Fierheller, pastor of the Anglican church, of which the deceased was a member, conducting the obsequies.
Attending the funeral from a distance were his son, James, of Carbon, Alta., Mrs. Ross and son, Chas. of Calgary, Alta., Mrs. Millen, of Calgary, and Mr. William Ranson, of Lindsay. Lindsay Watchman-Warder, Aug. 28, 1919.
