Shirley Irene Mortimer  (1927 ~ 2022)

 

2.3.9.10. Tenth child of John McBride Mortimer and Margaret Ann Campbell, Shirley Irene Mortimer, was born July 21, 1927, in Carbon, Alberta.

  She married Frank Wilson, son of James Wilson and Alice Anne Ewan, October 25, 1945, in Red Deer, Alberta and had four children:

  Shirley I. Mortimer Wilson died January 14, 2022, aged 94 years, in Red Deer, Alberta and Frank Wilson died May 3, 1983, aged 60 years in Calgary, Alberta and are interred at Alto-Reste Memorial Gardens, Red Deer, Alberta.

Miss Shirley Irene Mortimer, third eldest daughter of Mr. J. M. Mortimer of Rocky Mountain House became the bride of Mr. Frank Wilson, youngest son of Mrs. A. Wilson of Alhambra on Thursday, October 25, 1945. The wedding took place at Knox United Church, Red Deer, the ceremony being performed by Rev. D. J. Firth.

  The bride was lovely in a floor-length gown of white sheer with long sleeves and full skirt. A long veil was held in place with a wreath of orange blossoms. She carried a bouquet of red roses. The bridesmaid was Miss Linda Moberg of Rocky, who wore a floor-length gown of white net with blue accessories and carried a bouquet of pink and white carnations.

  After the ceremony, the bride and groom returned to Rocky, where a reception was held at the home of the bride’s sister, Mrs. William Jarvin. About forty guests were served. The bride’s table was centred with a three-tiered wedding cake and lighted candles. A toast was offered the young couple by the best man.

  Visitors at the wedding were Mr. and Mrs. Robert Evans and Mr. and Mrs. William Wilson all of Calgary. The happy couple left for a short honeymoon, and on their return will reside at Alhambra. Rocky Mountain House Mountaineer, Oct. 31, 1945.

Shirley I. Mortimer Wilson

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mom, grandma, great grandma (GG), friend, sister and aunt, Shirley Irene Wilson of Red Deer, Alberta on Friday, January 14, 2022 at the age of 94 years. Mom was born in Carbon, Alberta. She was 10th child of 12 children born to Margaret and John Mortimer. She later moved to Rocky Mountain House, where she met and married her husband Frank. Mom was a loving, thoughtful, generous kind and gentle soul who lived her life devoted to her family. Mom had a great passion for her flowers and she won prettiest yard in her neighbourhood three years in a row. She also loved her crocheting and knitting and made fabulous gifts for everyone. Mom was predeceased by dad (Frank in 1983). Mom will be missed by her children, Sterling (Wendy) Kelowna, B.C.; Darcy (Traci) Red Deer, AB; Bev (Shane) Red Deer, AB; Colin (son and caregiver for many years) Red Deer, AB; her five grandchildren Samantha (Noel), Annika (Kyle), Maisie (Troy), Steene, Desiree (Joey); seven great grandchildren; Emily, Payten, Parker, Ayla, Chaz, Elle, River and her sister Roxiena Ashmore from Okotoks and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. No service will be held as per mom’s request. The family is sincerely grateful to the staff and caregivers of CBI and Red Deer Regional Hospital for their care in moms last couple years. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association.

 

Frank Wilson

August 31, 1922 ~ May 3, 1983

Mr. Frank Wilson of 5611-56 Street, Red Deer, passed away at the Calgary General Hospital on May 3, 1983 at the age of 60 years. He is survived by his loving wife Shirley; three sons, Sterling and his wife Wendy of Edmonton, Colin of Red Deer, and Darcy of Calgary; one daughter, Beverly Drage and her husband Dana of Red Deer; three grandchildren; two brothers, Ed of Red Deer and Bill of Vancouver; six sisters, Mrs. Annie Johnson of Alix, Mrs. Alice Fraser of Kelowna, B.C., Mrs. Mabel Smith of Alhambra, Mrs. Clara Anderson of Picture Butte, Mrs. Ella Pollitt of Edmonton, and Mrs. Violet Patterson of Vancouver; also numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, James in 1935 and his mother, Alice in 1973; and one brother, Jim in 1979. Funeral services will be held form the Eventide Funeral Chapel, Red Deer, on Saturday, May 7, 1983 at 11:00 a.m. with The Reverend John Yoos officiating. Interment will follow in Alto-Reste Memorial Gardens. If friends desire, memorial tributes may be made to the Neurosurgical Ward at H-3, Calgary General Hospital.
