Raymond Gordon Mortimer  (1916 ~ 1981)

 

2.3.9.4. Fourth child of John McBride Mortimer and Margaret Ann Campbell, Raymond Gordon Mortimer, was born March 3, 1916, in Carbon, Alberta.

  He married Alice Rose Hellmer, daughter of Anton Hellmer and Rosa Byer, October 12, 1937, Tilley, Alberta and had one child:

  Raymond G. Mortimer died July 7, 1981, aged 65 years, in Didsbury, Alberta and Alice R. Hellmer Mortimer died July 17, 1994, aged 76 years in Calgary, Alberta and are interred Queens Park Cemetery.

Raymond G. Mortimer

Mr. Raymond Gordon Mortimer, beloved husband of Mrs. Alice Rose Mortimer of 5316 Vicary Place N.W., Calgary, passed away suddenly on July 7, 1981 at the age of 65 years. Born in Carbon, Alberta on March 3, 1916, Mr. Mortimer moved to Rocky Mountain House and attended the Beaver Flats School. He left home at the age of fourteen years and worked as a ranchhand in the Jenner area. In 1934 he arrived in the Tilley district and worked as a farmhand until his marriage to Alice Hellmer in 1937. Ray began his trucking career in 1940 at Tilley and moved to Calgary in 1943 with very few days of rest from then on. He trucked as far north as Fox, Alaska and east to Chicago, U.S.A.  His last moments were spent on the road returning to his family, home and friends at Calgary, Alberta, on July 7, 1981 while in employment of MacDonald’s Consolidation, Calgary. Besides his wife, Ray is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Tex and Bunny; two grandsons, Shane and Spencer, all of Calgary; three brothers, Reg of Haney, B.C.; Harold of Banff, Alberta and Marshall of Sylvan Lake, Alberta; five sisters: Phyllis Jarvin of Rocky Mountain House, Isabelle Evans of Calgary, Shirley Wilson of Red Deer, Roxiena Ashmore of Okotoks and Maxine Yerbury of Dawson Creek, B.C. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayer Services at St. Luke’s Catholic Church (1566 Northmount Dr. N.W.) on Friday, July 10, 1981 at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Luke’s Catholic Church on Saturday, July 11 at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorial tributes may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice. Alice R. Hellmer Mortimer

April 17, 1918 ~ July 17, 1994

Mrs. Alice Rose Mortimer of Calgary passed away at Holy Cross Hospital on July 17, 1994 at the age of 76 years. She is lovingly remembered by a son and daughter-in-law, Tex and Bunny Mortimer of Calgary; and two grandsons, Shane and Spencer. Also survived by two sisters, Annie Zollner of Minnesota, U.S.A. and Helen Borth of Brooks, Alberta; and many dear nieces and nephews. Predeceased by husband Raymond Mortimer in 1981 and her three brothers, Frank, Alex and Hugo Hellmer. Alice was an active member of St. Luke’s C.W.L. for many years. She was a very loving little lady to family, friends, and neighbours. Relatives and friends invited to Prayers at St. Luke’s Catholic Church on Friday July 22nd, 1994 at 11:00 am with the Reverend William H. Trienekens and the Very Reverend Patrick J. Cramer, Celebrants.
