Phyllis Jarvin (née Mortimer) passed away January 10, 2017 in the Rocky Mountain House hospital at the age of 97. She is survived by son Stacey (MaryAnne) of Victoria; grandson Mark (Charlene Cook) and great-grand-daughter Ivy of Toronto; her sisters Shirley Wilson of Red Deer and Roxina Ashmore of Okatoks; and was predeceased by Mortimer brothers Ray, Reg, Harold and Marshall; and sisters Isabelle Evans and Maxine Yerbury.

She was born in Carbon, Alberta near the middle of what was to become a family of nine children. They moved to the Rocky area when she was 8 and she has lived here for nearly 90 years. The family struggled through the depression, and as her mother died when she was 14, she left school to take care of her siblings, the youngest still in diapers.

When she married Bill Jarvin they built a home on an acreage just across the railway tracks in Old Town where she lived for most of her life. Older residents will remember her from her time at Brownlie’s and the Alpine Drug Stores; a younger generation will know her as the principal’s secretary at the Lochearn School.

The family would like to thank the management and staff of Westview Lodge, and the staff and doctors of the Rocky Hospital (in particular, Dr. Dykstra) for their care and attention.Cremation entrusted to the Rocky Mountain Crematorium, Rocky Mountain House, Alberta.
