Marshall Campbell Mortimer  (1925 ~ 1994)

 

2.3.9.9. Ninth child of John McBride Mortimer and Margaret Ann Campbell, Marshall Campbell Mortimer, was born June 21, 1925, in Carbon, Alberta.

  He married Alice Ursula Martin, daughter of Silas John Martin and Henrietta Brock, November 5, 1949, in Strathmore, Alberta and had two children:

  • (2.3.9.9.2)  Colleen Alice  (1966 ~ )   

 

  Marshall C. Mortimer died June 12, 1994, aged 68 years and Alice U. Martin Mortimer died December 23, 2011, aged 82 years, in Sylvan Lake, Alberta and are interred at Sylvan Lake Cemetery.

The Anglican Church of Strathmore, Alberta was the scene of a pretty wedding on Saturday, November 5, 1949, when Alice Ursula, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. J. Martin of Strathmore, and Marshall C. Mortimer, youngest son of Mr. J. M. Mortimer of Rocky Mountain House, were united in marriage.

  Rev. A. J. Thompson performed the ceremony for which the bride was given in marriage by her father. The groom’s gift to the bride was a gold engraved locket. A sister of the bride, Mrs. Edith Kent, was maid of honour, and Mr. Robert Evans of Calgary supported the groom. Mr. Howard Kent was the usher.

  The reception was held at the bride’s home. The bride’s table decorated with red and white carnations, was centred with a three-tier wedding cake. Out-of-town guests were Miss Roxie Mortimer and Mrs. William Jarvin of Rocky Mountain House, Miss Maxine Mortimer and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Evans of Calgary, and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Wilson of Stettler.

  The young couple spent a honeymoon at Banff and Rocky Mountain House, and will reside at Strathmore. Rocky Mountain House Mountaineer, Nov. 5, 1949.

Marshall C. Mortimer

Mr. Marshall Campbell Mortimer, of Sylvan Lake, Alberta, passed away on June 12, 1994 at the age of 68 years. Born on June 21, 1925 at Carbon, Alberta, he was raised in Rocky Mountain House area. He was a World War II veteran, and worked in carpentry and construction for most of his life. He had a great love of gardening and handcrafts. He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Alice Mortimer; one daughter, Colleen Arp, and her husband Bryan, and one grandson Braden Arp, all of Sylvan Lake. He is also survived by five sisters, Phyllis Jarvin, of Rocky Mountain House, Alta.; Isabelle Evans, of Calgary; Shirley Wilson, of Reed Deer, Alta.; Roxiena Ashmore, of Okotoks, Alta.; and Maxine Yerbury and her husband Tom, of Salmon Arm, Br. Col.; one brother, Harold Mortimer and his wife Julie, of Banff, Alta.; three sister-in-laws, Sadie Mortimer, of Maple Ridge, Br. Col.; Alice R. Mortimer, of Calgary; and Edith Kent, of Calgary. As well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Marshall is predeceased by his parents and three brothers. Funeral services for the late Mr. Marshall Mortimer will be held from the Memorial Presbyterian Church, Sylvan Lake, on Friday, June 17, 1994, at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Rod Ferguson officiating. Interment will follow in the Sylvan Lake Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, memorial tributes may be made to the Sylvan Lake Extended Care Society, or the Canadian Cancer Society. Alice U. Martin Mortimer

April 14, 1929 ~ December 23, 2011

Alice Ursula Mortimer (nee Martin) of Sylvan Lake passed away at the Bethany Care Center, Sylvan Lake on December 23, 2011 at the age of 82. Alice was born in Bassano, Alberta on April 14, 1929 and grew up on the family farm outside of Strathmore, Alberta. She married Marshall Mortimer on November 5, 1949. Alice and Marshall lived in a variety of places and eventually made Sylvan Lake their home from 1972 to present. Alice was a homemaker, focused on looking after her family, which later included her grandchildren. Alice is survived by one daughter Colleen Arp, her husband Bryan, two grandchildren Braden and Lauren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Alice was predeceased by husband Marshall, both parents and two sisters. The Funeral Service for the late Alice Mortimer will be held at the Memorial Presbyterian Church, Sylvan Lake on Thursday, December 29, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow in the Sylvan Lake Cemetery. If friends/family so desire, donations may be made in Alice's memory to Bethany Sylvan Lake, Sylvan Lake Lodge Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society. Pauline A. Mortimer

July 4, 1954 ~ September 29, 1954

Pauline Ann, aged two months, died September 29, 1954, beloved infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Campbell Mortimer of Strathmore, Alta. Services conducted by Rev. P. V. R. Pennant will be held in St. Michaels All Angels Church, Strathmore, Friday at 2:30 o’clock. McInnis and Holloway Funeral Directors. Calgary Herald, Sep. 30, 1954.

 

Silas J. Martin

1888 ~ October 13, 1972

Silas John Martin, aged 84 years, beloved husband of Mrs. Ettie Martin of Strathmore, Alta., passed away in a Calgary hospital, October 13, 1972, after a brief illness. Born at Torrington, Devonshire, England, Mr. Martin moved to Strathmore in 1910 where he was a well-known farmer of the district, retiring in 1964. He was a member of St. Michael and All Angels’ Church at Strathmore. Besides his loving wife, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. W. H. (Edith) Kent, Calgary and Mrs. M. C. (Alice) Mortimer, Sylvan Lake, Alta.; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren. Services conducted by Rev. A. H. Bullman will be held in St. Michael and All Angels’ Church at Strathmore, Monday at 2 p.m. Interment Strathmore Cemetery in lieu of flowers, if friends desire, donations may be made to the St. Michael and All Angels’ Church memorial fund at Strathmore.  McInnis and Holloway Ltd. Henrietta Brock Martin

1887 ~ May 30, 1982

Mrs. S. J. (Hettie) Martin, long time resident of Strathmore, passed away in the Calgary General Hospital, on May 30, 1982, after a lengthy illness at the age of 94 years. Born in Buckland Filleigh, Devon, England, Mrs. Martin came to Canada in 1914. She farmed in the Strathmore district for 45 years. In 1964, she moved into the Town of Strathmore and lived there until 1981.  Mrs. Martin was a long time avid worker and active member of the Anglican Church. Mrs. Martin is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Edith Kent of Calgary and Mrs. Alice Mortimer of Sylvan Lake; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Silas, in 1972; a daughter Florence in 1927; two brothers, Jim and Charles; and one sister Annie. Funeral Services will be held at St. Michael and All Angels’ Anglican Church, Strathmore, on Thursday, June 3, 1982 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. John Dalton and Rev. Canon L. Thurston officiating. Interment to follow in Strathmore Cemetery. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made to the St. Michael and All Angels’ Church Fund, Strathmore, Alberta.
