Norman Elwood Ranson  (1920 ~ 2001)

 

2.4.3.7. Seventh child of William James Ranson and Maud Eveline Snell, Norman Elwood Ranson, was born October 28, 1920, in Anson Twp., Haliburton Co., Ontario.

  He married Elinor Marjorie Sutherland, daughter of Alonzo Benjamin Sutherland and Elsie Sym Moore, July 16, 1949, in Sudbury, Ontario and had two children:

  • (2.4.3.7.2)  Linda Marie  (1954 ~ 2022

 

  Norman E. Ranson died November 22, 2001, aged 81 years, in London, Ontario and Elinor M. Sutherland Ranson Keenan died October 28, 1987, aged 59 years in Thunder Bay, Ontario.

RANSON—In Anson Township, on Thursday, October 28, 1920, to Mr. and Mrs. William J. Ranson, a son. Minden Hills Museum Newspaper Clippings.

----- MARRIAGE -----

Ranson—Sutherland

Miss Elinor Margery Sutherland, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. B. Sutherland, 334 East Francis Street, Fort William, became the bride of Norman Elwood Ranson, Lindsay, Ontario, July 16, 1949 at 7 p.m. in St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church. Rev. V. E. Whatley, of First Baptist Church, officiated.

  The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a street length dress of white crepe with a white lace hat and mittens. Her Colonial bouquet was of red roses.

  Miss Eleanor Thiessen, bridesmaid, chose a dress of pale green taffeta with a white hat and accessories. She had a Colonial bouquet of roses.

  Neil Smith was the best man.

 A reception for 100 guests was held at the Masonic Hall, West Gore Street, where the bride’s mother received in a grey crepe frock and hat and white accessories. A toast to the bride was proposed by her uncle, G. T. Moore. Tea was poured by Mrs. G. T. Moore, aunt of the bride, and Mrs. P. Nicholas and serving were Misses K. Parsons, V. Reid, A. MacManus, S. Humphrey, M. Roach and A. Thiessen. Mrs. M. M. Reid, aunt of the bride, cut the wedding cake.

  Guests included Mr. and Mrs. R. D. Camelon, Duluth, brother-in-law and sister of the bride.

Showers for the bride were arranged by Miss E. Thiessen and the staff of C. R. Strachan’s Store.

  The couple left for a motor trip to Lindsay and Montreal, the bride going away in a light blue gabardine suit and pink accessories. She wore a corsage of red roses. They will reside at Suite 3, Wishart Court. Port Arthur News-Chronicle, July 22, 1949.

Norman E. Ranson

Peacefully after a lengthy illness, at Parkwood Hospital on Thursday, November 22, 2001, Norman Elwood Ranson, in his 82nd year, WWII Veteran and D.F.M. Loving husband of Eva. Dear father of Jane Gallagher of Owen Sound and Linda and her husband Lee Girard of Windsor. Beloved grandfather of Jeffrey (Angela), Jason (Lori), and Kevin and great-grandfather of Natalie. Brother of Myrtle Ranson and Helen Ranson both of Linsday. Also survived by step-children Lloyd and Karen, Jim and Ada, Linda and Don, Patti and Pat, Suzanne and Rob and their families. Norman was a retired executive from Zellers after 39 years. At Mr. Ranson’s request there will be a private family visitation and funeral service at the Logan Chapel of Furtney Funeral Homes, 371 Dundas Street with a private family interment at New Maple Leaf Cemetery in Chatham. Elinor M. Sutherland Ranson Keenan

September 4, 1928 ~ October 28, 1987

Mrs. Elinor Keenan Ranson, age 59 years of 320 South Rockwood Avenue passed away on Wednesday, October 28, 1987 in hospital after a brief illness. Born in Fort William, a bookkeeper by trade, she had been employed for various companies, most recently with Burke Jewellers. A member of the Thunder Bay Five Pin Association and the Women of the Moose P. A. Chapter 1212. Survived by her husband Cliff, two daughters, Jane Gallagher of Owen Sound, Linda Clingersmith of Burlington and Cliff’s son Kevin Keenan of Thunder Bay. Grandsons Jeff and Jason Gallagher, Kevin Clingersmith. Her mother Mrs. Elsie Sutherland of Grandview Lodge. A sister Ileen Stephens; two brothers, Blake and Morris Sutherland all of Thunder Bay and a sister Lillian Saderberg of Vancouver (presently here). Nieces, nephews and other relatives. Predeceased by her father Ben Sutherland. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 30, 1987 at 1:30 p.m. in the Everest Funeral Chapel with Rev. Dr. M. Allan McDowell officiating. Interment in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. Thursday. The family respect-fully request that flowers be omitted. May 28, 1921 ~ May 3, 2004

At Babcock Community Care Centre, Wardsville, Ontario on Monday, May 3, 2004Eva (Sadler) Ranson of London in her 83rd year. Beloved wife of the late Norman Ranson. Dear mother of Lloyd and his wife Karen Brush, Jim and his wife Ada Brush, Linda and her husband Don Smith, Patti and her husband Pat Ambrose, and Suzanne and her husband Rob Bennett. Dear stepmother of Jane Gallagher and Linda Girard. Loved by many grand-children and great-grandchildren.

  Private family service will be held at the Logan Funeral Home, 371 Dundas Street (between Waterloo and Colborne Streets) on Wednesday, May 5, 2004 at 1 p.m. Interment New Maple Leaf Cemetery, Chatham. Friends who wish may make memorial donations to the Ontario Heart & Stroke Foundation. A tree will be planted as a living memorial to Mrs. Ranson. London Free Press, May 4, 2004.
