----- ANNIVERSARY -----

Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Baldwin

Golden Wedding Anniversary

On Wednesday, October 28, Mr. and Mrs. J. G. (George) Baldwin, 10 Sylvan Cres., Lindsay observed the fiftieth anniversary of their wedding, the Golden Year. The reception was attended by hundreds of friends and the anniversary family dinner was held within the confines of St. Paul’s Anglican Church where through many years the honoured couple served so well and faithfully.

It was appropriate that the dinner guests included Canon and Mrs. Hesketh of Peterborough, formerly of Lindsay as well as the present incumbent at St. Paul’s Church, Rev. David Lemon and Mrs. Lemon.

The capacity of the spacious Marsh Memorial Hall was taxed both afternoon and evening by hundreds of friends and relatives bringing words of congratulation to the popular couple. Several came from quite a distance.

The congratulations of those present were echoed by the many anniversary cards and telegrams received during the day, many from friends a long distance away who were unable to be there in person.

The golden decorated reception hall was the admiration of many guests and the beautiful articles and furniture and attractive floor and table lighting fixtures were supplied by Tangney’s as a tribute to the honoured couple.

Mr. and Mrs. Baldwin, Miss Lorna Baldwin, Mr. and Mrs. Grant Baldwin, Ronnie and Jeff Baldwin received and were gracious and kindly and the social aspect of the occasion was grately enjoyed.

A private spacious room was set aside for the family dinner, the four square table being surrounded by members of the family as well as being graced by the presence of the clergy. Henry Baldwin of Oshawa, a brother of George Baldwin was the capable toastmaster and interspearsed speeches with wit and humour. Short speeches were made by Rev. Lemon and Rev. Canon Hesketh, by Arnott Ranson of Montreal, brother of Mrs. Baldwin, by Grant Baldwin and Gordon Graham, former mayor of Lindsay, a brother-in-law of Mr. Baldwin, who were among the honoured guests.

In a well worded speech appropriate to the occasion Mr. Baldwin made a reference  to the growth and development of the firm of J. G. Baldwin and son and he wa also in a reminiscent mood concerning his embarkation on the sea of matrimony fifty years ago and paid tribute to his helpmate through the years.
