G. Joan Wood Adams
June 29, 1931 ~ January 21, 2023
In her 92 year, has passed peacefully during her sleep at GBGH. Known better as Joan or Maw, she lived in Waverley all her life. Only daughter of Wallace and Vera May Wood, married to William Charles Adams (The Chief), she married into a large family and had three sons, who she loved and adored very much. She always had her door open to friends and family, often saying, just add another cup of water to the soup, and pull up another chair to the table. She baked with love, always having butter tarts, date squares and pies at the ready. Christmas would bring out her world famous Christmas cake. Her knitting projects have put cozy sweaters and blankets on her many lucky grandchildren. When they were all outfitted, she took to making blankets for Sick Kids Hospital. Joan was a devout member of the Waverley United Church and gave much of her time to the church, and enjoyed the friendships of the lovely church folk. Joan took great pride in her family, and had a wall of photos to prove it. When family told her they loved her, she would answer back, I love you more. The last letter she wrote said “I was really lucky God gave you boys to me, you have always been special and I hope you know, Love you more, Maw. Maw will be missed, never forgotten by sons Charlie (Pam), Mike (Sandy), Pat (who will meet her on the rainbow bridge), her grandchildren Alex (Lacey), Stephanie (James), Carina (Rob), Rachelle (Sean), and her great grandchildren (Cayde, Laughlin, Scarlett, Easton, Ava, Elizabeth, Riley and Josie). A visitation will be held at Lynn-Stone Funeral Home, Elmvale, on Saturday, January, 28th from 12 noon until time of the service at 2 pm. Spring interment to take place at Waverley United Cemetery. Memorial donations to Spinal Cord Injury of Ontario (SCIO) would be gratefully appreciated. (sciontario.org)
I’d like the memory of me to be a happy one.
I’d like to leave an afterglow of smiles when life is done.
I’d like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days.
I’d like the tears of those who grieve, to dry in the sun of happy memories that I leave when life is done. -Joan Adams
