Charles Ross Elford  (1877 ~ 1934)

 

4.2.2.5. Fifth child of John Elford and Fanny Colton, Charles Ross Elford, was born November 3, 1877, in Hampton, Darlington Twp., Durham Co., Ontario.

  He married Llewella Blanche Burt, daughter of William Burt and Emma Gray, January 1, 1902, in Bay Center, Pembina Co., North Dakota, U.S. and had two children: 

 

  • (4.2.2.5.1)  Herman Burt  (1903 ~ 1974)    

  • (4.2.2.5.2)  Wilbert Elmer  (1908 ~ 1983)    

 

  Charles R. Elford died June 19, 1934, aged 56 years in Walhalla, Pembina Co., North Dakota and Llewella B. Burt Elford Kent died July 2, 1974, aged 90 years in Mankato, Blue Earth Co., Minnesota, U.S. and are interred at Walhalla Hillside Cemetery.

 Charles R. Elford Dies At Home Here Tuesday 

Following Lingering Illness 

 

FUNERAL SERVICES SLATED FOR FRIDAY

 

Deceased Had Lived in Pembina County 51 Years; 

Heart Ailment Causes Death 

Funeral services will be held at the local Methodist church Friday at 2:30 p.m. for Charles R. Elford, Pembina county pioneer, who passed away at his home here Tuesday [June 19, 1934], following a lingering heart ailment, which had confined him to his home for the greater portion of the past six months. 

  The services will be conducted by Rev. Rockwell of Hope, who was formerly in charge of the local parish. He will be assisted by Rev. H. C. Newman. Those who will bear the pioneer to his last resting place are Ward Watts, David Blair, D. L. Snider, C. K. Soeby, Wood Howell, and Hugh Gibson. 

  Charles R. Elford was born at Bowmanville, Ontario in 1876. He migrated to North Dakota with his parents, when he was five years of age, settling with them in the Bay Centre district. He has lived continuously in that section or n Walhalla for fifty-one years. 

He was married in Bay Center in 1902 to Llewella B. Burt. To their union two children were born, Herman of Buttsville, N.D., and Wilbert of Walhalla.

  Mr. Elford was a member of the local Masonic lodge and a life long member of the Methodist church. 

  Surviving in addition to his wife and two sons are a sister, Mrs. Mattie Huffman of Walhalla and two brothers, George of Salem, Oregon and Edgar of Pontiac, Michigan.Walhalla Mountianeer, June 21, 1934.
