Franklin Charles Elford  (1871 ~ 1936)

 

4.2.3.2. Second child of William H. Elford and Mary E. Webster, Franklin Charles Elford, was born July 27, 1871, in Hampton, Darlington Twp., Durham Co., Ontario.  

  He married Margaret Christie, daughter of Joseph Christie and Helen Ford, January 1, 1900, in Carman, Manitoba and had five children:

  • (4.2.3.2.3)  Edith Margaret  (1905 ~ 1990)

  • (4.2.3.2.5)  Mary Webster  (1911 ~ 1987)    

 

  Franklin C. Elford died January 6, 1936, aged 64 years, and Margaret Christie Elford died December 25, 1968, aged 95 years in Winnipeg, Manitoba and are interred at Greenwood Cemetery.

Franklin C. Elford

July 27, 1871 ~ January 6, 1936

The funeral of Franklin Charles Elford, 64, of 214 Osborne Street, who died Monday at Winnipeg General hospital, was held Wednesday afternoon, at Carman, Man.

  Mr. Elford, the son of the late William H. Elford, of Carman, was born in Ontario, and came west with his parents in 1883. January 1, 1900, he married Margaret Christie, of Carman, and previous to coming to Winnipeg to live, he farmed south of Carman, for three years.

  Since residing in Winnipeg he had been employed by the Cana-dian National railway as a locomotive engineer, he was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers.

  Surviving, besides his wife, are three daughters and two sons: Mrs. William L. Beaton, Winnipeg; William Robert Elford, of St. Vital; Edith, Joseph and Mary, at home. Four sisters, Mrs. T. Finn, Mrs. Burbank, Mrs. W. Shuttleworth and Ada Elford; also two brothers, Russell and Fred Elford, of Carman, survive. Winnipeg Free Press, Jan. 11, 1936.

 

Margaret Christie Elford

October 15, 1873 ~ December 25, 1968

On December 25, 1968, at the Misericordia Hospital, Margaret, aged 95 years, late of 214 Osborne St., widow of Franklin C. Elford. Funeral service will be held in the Thomson Funeral Chapels, Broadway and Furby, Saturday, December 28th at 1:00 p.m. The Rev. J. A. Strachan officiating, followed by graveside service and interment in the family plot, Greenwood Cemetery, Carman, Man. at 3:00 p.m. 

  Mrs. Elford was born in Scotland, coming to Canada in 1886 settling in Carman and moved to Winnipeg in 1904. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Ellen Beaton and Edith Elford of Winnipeg and Mrs. Mary Winyard of Burlington, Ontario. Two sons William Robert and James Joseph Elford of Winnipeg, 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Winnipeg Free Press, Dec. 26, 1968.
