Russell Thorsby Elford  (1877 ~ 1962)

 

4.2.3.5. Fifth child of William H. Elford and Mary E. Webster, Russell Thorsby Elford, was born July 10, 1877, in Hampton, Darlington Twp., Durham Co., Ontario.  

  Russell T. Elford died January 14, 1962, aged 84 years, in Carman, Manitoba and is interred at Carman Cemetery.

Russell T. Elford

July 10, 1877 ~ January 14, 1962

Russell Thorsby Elford, a resident in the Carman area for the past 80 years, died at Carman Memorial Hospital Sunday, January 14, 1962, in his 85th year.

  Born at Hampton, Ont., July 10, 1877, he came west as a child with his parents in 1881. They settled on a farm in Central district, south of Carman. He farmed there until his retirement in 1954.

  Mr. Elford was one of the first directors of Dufferin Agriculture Society and served on the board for 34 years; he was also a member of Carman I.O.O.F. lodge.

  Funeral service was conducted at Doyle’s funeral home at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 17 by Rev. J. A. Stephen. Members of Carman I.O.O.F. Lodge conducted the funeral rites of the Order. 

    Burial was in Carman Cemetery.

  Pallbearers were Jack Bell of Morden, Everett Swain, Elvin Swanton, Clarence Alldread, Hugh Strong and Earl Bottrell.

Surviving is one sister, Mrs. W. Shuttleworth (Hilda) of Vancouver, B.C. Carman Dufferin Leader, Jan. 18, 1962.
