Mabel Frances Rogers  (1877 ~ 1972)

 

4.2.4.3. Third child of Elizabeth A. Elford and Charles Rogers, Mabel Frances Rogers, was born March 20, 1877, in Port Perry, Reach Twp., Ontario Co., Ontario.  

  She married George Holmes, son of James Holmes and Annie Laing, December 15, 1908, in Mount Vernon, Darlington Twp., Durham Co., Ontario and had two children: 

 

  • (4.2.4.3.1)  Dwight Laing  (1909 ~ 2008)  

  • (4.2.4.3.2)  Marion Helen  (1913 ~ 1999)  

   

  Mabel F. Rogers Holmes died April 2, 1972, aged 95 years, in Tracy, San Joaquin Co., California, U.S. and George Holmes died March 7, 1951, aged 74 years in Walhalla, North Dakota, U.S. and are interred at Walhalla Hillside Cemetery.

Mabel F. Rogers Holmes

March 20, 1877 ~ April 2, 1972

Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 4, 1972 at 10:00 a.m., at Hotchkiss Mortuary in Tracy, Calif., for Mrs. Mabel F. Holmes, 95, who passed away Sunday, April 2, in the Tracy Nursing Center, following an extended illness.

  Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Clair Lavelle (Helen) of Tracy, Calif., and a son, Dwight Holmes, of Walhalla; two sisters, Mrs. Ella Morrison of Bowmanville, Ont., and Mrs. Winifred VanNest of San Francisco, Calif.; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

  Mrs. Holmes was born at Port Perry, Ontario, Canada, March 20, 1877, and was married to George Holmes in 1908. They made their home in the Walhalla community, until moving to Grand Forks in 1942. She has lived in Tracy, Calif., for the past 12 years, and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Tracy.

  She was preceded in death by her husband in 1951. Walhalla Mountaineer, Apr. 3, 1972.

 

George Holmes

December 6, 1876 ~ March 7, 1951

George Holmes, 74, who came to Grand Forks from Walhalla in 1943, died Wednesday at his home, 715 Lincoln Dr.

  Services have been set for 2:30 p.m. Friday at the Presbyterian Church in Walhalla. Burial will take place in the Walhalla Cemetery. The body will lie in state Thursday evening at the Hanson-Anderson Funeral Home in Grand Forks.

  Born December 6, 1876, in Blackstock, Ont., Mr. Holmes moved to Walhalla from Canada in 1889. He was married to Mabel Rogers on December 15, 1908 in Ontario.

  Survivors, in addition to the widow, include a daughter, Mrs. Clair LaValle of Grand Forks; a son, Dwight, of Mohall; two sisters, Mrs. E. A. Nichols of Portland, Ore., and Mrs. Grace Stewart of Arlington, Va., and five grandchildren. A brother died in 1906.

  Mr. Holmes was a member of the Presbyterian Church and Masonic Lodge, A.F. & A.M. No. 50, at Walhalla. Walhalla Mountaineer, Mar. 15, 1951.
