John Herbert Grey Rogers  (1882 ~ 1968)

 

4.2.4.5. Fifth child of Elizabeth A. Elford and Charles Rogers, John 'Herbert' Grey Rogers, was born April 2, 1882, in Port Perry, Reach Twp., Ontario Co., Ontario.  

  He married Victoria 'Melissa' Thomas, daughter of Silas Thomas and Rebecca Treleven, August 1, 1942, in Toronto, Ontario.

  J. Herbert Rogers died July 10, 1968, aged 86 years, in London, England and V. Melissa Thomas Rogers died October 24, 1957, aged 78 years in Bowmanville, Ontario and are interred at Oshawa Union Cemetery.

J. Herbert Rogers

April 2, 1882 ~ July 10, 1948

Suddenly, on tour in London, England, on Wednesday, July 10, 1968, Herb Rogers of 47 Church St., Bowmanville, brother of Mrs. William G. V. Melissa Thomas Rogers

September 11, 1879 ~ October 24, 1957

The death occurred on Thursday, October 24, 1957, of Victoria Melissa Thomas, beloved wife of J. Herbert Rogers, 24 Jane St., Bowmanville. Mrs. Rogers had been in failing health for some years.

  Born at Taunton, the deceased was a daughter of the late Silas and Rebecca Thomas. She was married in Toronto in August, 1942. A resident of Bowmanville for eight years, Mrs. Rogers had lived previously in Toronto and St. Ann’s, Ont.

  A member of the United Church, Mrs. Rogers was associated for a number of years with the Methodist Book Room in Toronto. She was also active in Sunday School work and was a life member of the Women’s Missionary Society.

  Besides her husband she leaves a sister, Mrs. Olive Norrish, of Bowmanville and two brothers, Wilfred L. Thomas, of Winnipeg and Clarence E. Thomas, of Orillia. 

  The funeral service was held at the McIntosh Funeral Chapel, Oshawa, on Monday, October 28. Rev. R. H. Rickard conducted the services. Interment was in the Oshawa Union Cemetery. Bowmanville Statesman, Oct. 31, 1957.
