Margaret Archer  (1875 ~ 1966)

 

4.3.2. Second child of Jane Adams and Hugh Archer, Margaret Archer, was born September 19, 1875, in Cartwright Twp., Durham Co., Ontario. 

  She married Calvin Reginald DeNure, son of Daniel DeNure and Lucy Huggard, November 15, 1899, in Wyebridge, Tiny Twp., Simcoe Co., Ontario and had six children:

 

 

  Margaret Archer DeNure died May 14, 1966, aged 90 years, in Washago, Simcoe Co., Ontario and C. Reginald DeNure died December 2, 1929, aged 55 years in Gravenhurst, Ontario and are interred at St. Andrew’s Cemetery, Orillia, Ontario.

Margaret Archer DeNure

Margaret DeNure of 155 Brant St. E., died recently on May 14, 1966 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Doris Watson of Lake St. George, following a lengthy illness. She was 90 years old.

  Born Margaret Archer in 1875 in Cartwright Township, Mrs. DeNure was a member of St. Paul’s United Church.

  She married the late Calvin R. DeNure in 1899 in Wyebridge.

  She is survived by daughters, Mrs. Doris Watson, Lake St. George, Mrs. Lela Cossey, Orillia; and sons, Fred of Oshawa, A. Edwin of Peterborough, and J. Ivan of Chatham. One son, Calvin predeceased her. Also predeceased are three brothers and one sister.

  Funeral service was held at the Doolittle Funeral Home. Rev. Alan McCuaig and Rev. P. C. Lewis officiated. Pallbearers were grandsons Alfred Watson, Mervin, John, Fred, Reg and Ken DeNure. Interment was in St. Andrew’s Cemetery. Orillia Packet & Times, May 26, 1966.

 

C. Reginald DeNure

April 29, 1874 ~ December 2, 1929

Calvin Reginald DeNure, manager of the National Sanitarium farm situated at the north end of Gravenhurst, died at his home on Monday, December 2, 1929, during noon hour, in his 56th year.  He had been ill for the past month with pneumonia, and at times showed signs of improvement, but a relapse of his serious trouble proved too much for him.

  The late Mr. DeNure was the eldest son of Mrs. Daniel (Lucy) DeNure and the late Mr. Daniel DeNure, formerly of Innisfil, near Barrie, where he was born. From there he went to Midland, where he farmed for some time, after which he was employed at the Ontario Hospital, Penetanguishene, for some years. Later he was transferred to the Ontario Hospital at Orillia as farm manager. About the year 1915, Mr. DeNure and family took up a farm in North Orillia where he was until going to Gravenhurst to manage the Sanitarium farm in 1922, which greatly improved under his supervision. He was well known in Gravenhurst, being a daily visitor, and attended the United church, and was appointed to the Management Board. He was even ready to assist with any good public event and was a member of the curling club, in which organization he will be much missed. The deepest sympathy of the community will be extended to the bereaved family, who are also well known.

  Mr. DeNure is survived by his widow, four sons and two daughters, Calvin and Fred, of Oshawa; Edwin of Belleville; Mrs. William Watson, of Washago; Lela and Ivan at home, and his mother and brother Moberly, of Midland.

  The funeral service was conducted by the Rev. Mr. Beecroft, assisted by the Rev. Mr. Livingstone, on Wednesday afternoon, abd the remains were taken by C.N.R. for burial in Orillia cemetery. The pallbearers were Messrs. Geo. Clipsham, Dr. Stewart, H. Kaye, L. Stithers, Albert Hurst, Wm. Russell.

  The attending the funeral were his brother Moberly, Mrs. Fred DeNure, Mrs. Edwin DeNure, Miss Oke of Port Hope; Mr. and Mrs. James Archer, Mr. Samuel Archer, all of Midland; Mr. Walter Montgomery, of Wyebridge; Mr. Sam Edgerton, of Novar; Messrs. John and Wm. Edgerton and Mrs. Edgerton, all of Huntsville; Mr. Thos. Swindle, of Lefroy; Messrs. Wm. J. and Daniel Watson, of Washago and other from Toronto, Orillia, Ardtrea and Lake St. George who found it impossible to motor through to Gravenhurst joined the funeral at Orillia. 

  Beautiful flowers were received from the National Sanitorium association, the Official Board, Trustee Board and Board of Stewards of the United church, the Ladies’ Aid, the United church Young People’s Society, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Corbett, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. McCutcheon, Mrs. J. D. Rice, Mr. and Mrs. Kelsey, Mr. and Mrs. Huney, Mrs. J. Martin and Mr. and Mrs. L. Stothers, Senior IV class Public School, Postoffice staff, all of Gravenhurst; Mr. and Mrs. Moberly DeNure and family, Mr. and Mrs. James Archer, Mrs. Jos. Montgomery and Miss Adams, Mr. and Mrs. Wm.
