Doris Gertrude DeNure  (1906 ~ 1995)

 

4.3.2.4. Fourth child of Margaret Archer and Reginald DeNure, Doris Gertrude DeNure, was born June 5, 1906, in Penetanguishene, Simcoe Co., Ontario. 

  She married William John Watson, son of William Watson and Sophia Mary Hawkins, June 4, 1927, in Gravenhurst, Ontario and had two children:

 

  • (4.3.2.4.1)  Margaret Sophia  (1929 ~ 2016)       

  • (4.3.2.4.2)  William Alfred  (1933 ~ 2018)      

 

  Doris G. DeNure Watson Hawkins died January 16, 1995, aged 88 years, in Kilworthy, Ontario and William J. Watson died December 8, 1960, aged 62 years in Orillia, Ontario and are interred at St. Andrew’s St. James’ Cemetery, Orillia, Ontario.   

 

----- MARRIAGE -----

A wedding took place on Saturday, June 4, 1927, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Reginald DeNure, Gravenhurst, when their daughter, Doris Gertrude, was married to Mr. William J. Watson, son of William and the late Mrs. Watson of Severn Bridge. The rooms were beautifully decorated with pink and white tulips and apple blossoms. The bride, who was given away by her father, looked charming in a gown of blonde georgette and satin, and carried a bouquet of Butterfly roses. The bridesmaid, Miss Annie Watson, wore a gown of rosewood crepe, and carried a bouquet of Kordes roses and sweet peas. The groom was supported by Mr. Edwin DeNure of Oshawa. Rev. H. W. Strapp of Uhthoff performed the cemetery and Miss Ethel Watson played the wedding music. During the signing of the register Mrs. Strapp sang “O Perfect Day.” After a dainty luncheon Mr. and Mrs. Watson left by motor for Owen Sound, Chesley and other points, the bride traveling in a blonde coat with hat, shoes and stockings to match. On their return they will reside at “Maple Lane” Farm, Lake St. George. Gravenhurst Banner, June 9, 1927.

Doris G. DeNure Watson Hawkins

At the Balmoral Lodge, Kilworthy, on Monday, January 16, 1995 in her 89th year. Doris Hawkins (nee DeNure), beloved wife of the late Leslie Hawkins and William Watson. Loving mother of Margaret Ferguson and her husband Grant of Lindsay, and Alfred Watson and his wife Ellen of Lake St. George. Step mother of Ralph Hawkins and his wife Ellen of Lake St. George, and Phyllis Stanton and her husnand Tom of Port Stanton. Grandmother of Bonnie, Brenda, Bill, Brian, Andy, Charlie, Ric, Nancy, Keith, Jane, Barbara, and Darlene. Great-grandmother of several great-grandchildren. Sister of Lela Cossey, Ivan DeNure and the late Calvin, Fred and Edwin DeNure. The family will receive friends at the Doolittle-Carson Funeral Home, 54 Coldwater St. E., Orillia, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday. Funeral service in the chapel Thursday afternoon at 1 p.m. Interment St. Andrew’s St. James’ Cemetery, Orillia. William J. Watson

June 11, 1898 ~ December 8, 1960

The Lake St. George Community lost one of its highly respected residents when William John Watson suddenly died, December 8, 1960, in his 63rd year.

  While Mr. Watson had been in poor health for several years, his sudden death was a great shock to a wide circle of friends in whose esteem he held an honorable place. He was a man of sterling character and kindly qualities.

  Born at Lake St. George June 11, 1898, he was the only son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Watson and spent his entire life in the community winning a host of friends through his kind disposition and deeds.

  On June 4, 1927, Mr. Watson married Doris DeNure, daughter of Mrs. M. DeNure of Orillia and the late Mr. DeNure.

  Mr. Watson was a faithful attendant of the United church in Washago until his health began to fail.

  Left to mourn his loss, besides his widow are his daughter Margaret (Mrs. G. R. Ferguson) of Oakwood, his son Alfred at home, his sister Ethel of Detroit and five grandchildren.

  The funeral service, conducted by the Rev. R. M. Dingwall of Elmwood, Ont., was held December 12 from Doolittle Bros. Funeral Home to St. Andrew’s Cemetery.

  Pallbearers were: Dan Watson, Roy Whitney, Walter Hawkins, Russel Francis, Alan Hawkins, and Griffith Bingham, cousins of the deceased. Orillia Packet & Times, Dec. 22, 1960.
