James Archer  (1883 ~ 1962)

 

4.3.5. Fifth child of Jane Adams and Hugh Archer, James Archer, was born June 20, 1883, in Wyebridge, Tiny Twp., Simcoe Co., Ontario. 

  He married (1) Hannah Kiziah Leithwood, daughter of Henry Leithwood and Mary Ann Brown, November 17, 1909, in Midland, Ontario.

  He married (2) Ethel May Glaspell Todd, daughter of John Glaspell and Mary Jane Hill, June 20, 1957, in Penetanguishene, Ontario.

 

  James Archer died June 18, 1962, aged 78 years, in Midland, Ontario and H. Kiziah Leithwood Archer died August 15, 1948, aged 69 years in Toronto, Ontario and Ethel M. Glaspell Todd Archer died August 6, 1959, aged 74 years in Midland, Ontario and are interred at Lakeview Cemetery.

In a quiet ceremony at the United Church parsonage in Penetanguishene, Mrs. Ethel Todd and James Archer of Midland were united in marriage, June 20, 1957. Rev. Arthur J. Lewis officiated. Leaving immediately after the ceremony, they visited Lindsay, St. Catharines, and Stouffville. Midland Free Press, July 24, 1957.

James Archer

A life time resident of the Midland district, James Archer died June 18, 1962, following a lengthy illness.

  Rev. J. L. Self officiated at the funeral held from Nicholls funeral home. Interment was in Lakeview Cemetery. Pallbearers were six of his nephews.

  Mr. Archer was born in Wyebridge in 1883, and was educated in the same community. He later moved to Midland, where he lived until his death. In Midland he was an elder of the Knox Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Oddfellows Lodge No. 274.

 Out-of-town relatives and friends attending the service came from Chatham, Peter-borough, Toronto, London, and Port Perry. Midland Free Press, June 22, 1962.

 

Hannah Kiziah Leithwood Archer

September 6, 1878 ~ August 12, 1948

Hannah Archer died at Wellesley Hospital, Toronto. Hannah Leithwood born in Richmond Hill in 1878 and educated there. In 1909 she married James Archer in Midland as was a member of the Presbyterian Church. The funeral was conducted by Rev. Gosselin and Rev. Olmstead. She was buried at Lakeview Cemetery in Midland. The pallbearers were Syd English, Lorne Faragher, George Ross, L. Calder, H. McHill and Harry Bowman. She is survied by her husband James Archer. Also two sisters, Mrs. Albert Sloan and Mrs. Fred Garman both of Toronto. Also two brothers Joseph and Jack Leithwood both of Toronto. She is also survived by a Mrs. William Archer of Waverley. Midland Free Press, Aug. 18, 1948.

 

Ethel M. Glaspell Todd Archer

July 26, 1885 ~ August 6, 1959

An active worker in Trinity United Church, Penetang, where she resided in that town, Mrs. Ethel May Archer died in St. Andrew’s Hospital, Midland, August 6, 1959, following a stroke. She was in her 75th year.

  Funeral service was conducted by Rev. W. L. Morden, August 8, at A. Barrie and Sons funeral home. Pallbearers were John Newberry, H. Morrison, Reginald Fox, Harold Archer and two grandsons, Donald Fox and Roger Todd.

  Born in Tiny Township, the former Ethel Glaspell, she was educated in Randolph and in 1904 married E. W. Todd. He predeceased her in 1951 and on June 20, 1957, at Penetang she married James Archer.

  Besides her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Harold Fox (Edna) of Midland, a son, Walter Todd of Stouffville, a sister, Mrs. S. E. Todd of Forest, and a brother, Frank Glaspell of Midland. Four grandchildren and one great-grandchild also survive.

  Out-of-town relatives and friends attended the funeral from Lindsay, Toronto, Collingwood, Orillia, Severn Bridge, London, St. Catharines, Peterborough and Stouffville.

  Burial was in Lakeview Cemetery, Midland. Midland Free Press, Aug. 19, 1959.
