Robert Adams  (1850 ~ 1940)

 

4.4. Fourth child of James Adams and Jane English, Robert Adams, was born April 20, 1850, in Cartwright Twp., Durham Co., Ontario.

  He married Susan Jane Pinch, daughter of John Pinch and Mary Ann Smith, on November 3, 1874, in Osprey Twp., Grey Co., Ontario and had five children:

  • (4.4.4)  Robert  (1883 ~ 1958)

  Robert Adams died March 31, 1940, aged 89 years in Collingwood, Grey Co., Ontario and Susan J. Pinch Adams died April 20, 1890, aged 36 years in Osprey Twp., Grey Co., Ontario and are interred at Trinity United Cemetery.

Robert Adams

After an illness of four months Mr. Robert Adams passed away at his home, on Sixth Street, Collingwood, on Sunday morning, March 31, 1940, in his 90th year. He was born in Cartwright Township in 1850 and as a young man learned carriage making with McLaughlin Bros. in Oshawa. Later he carried on a carriage making business for a few years in Waverley, but owing to ill health was obliged to discontinue. He turned to farming in Osprey Township, and later moved to MacMurchy’s Settlement, whence he retired to town in 1917.

  He was married to Susan Jane Pinch, who died in 1890. Surviving are fours sons and one daughter, John in Humboldt, Sask.; Robert, MacMurchy’s Settlement; George on the Tenth Line and Capt. James and Mary at home; fourteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild. There are also two sisters, Mrs. Bella Montgomery and Miss Margaret Adams of Wyebridge.

  The funeral service was conducted by the Rev. A. S. Kerr on Tuesday afternoon, April 2nd. Interment was made in Trinity United Cemetery.

  Those attending from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Sam. Archer, Mr. and Mrs. Elwood Fagan, Harold Archer, Midland; Mr. and Mrs. Mervin Grigg, Herbert Montgomery, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Montgomery, Mr. and Mrs. Munroe Adams, Wyebridge; Mrs. John Colwill, Victoria Harbour; Lambert Beacock, Chas. Grigg, Mrs. Sibbald, Preston Doan, Emerson Doan, Mrs. and Mrs. Sam. Landman, Elmvale.

  Mr. Adams was a quiet, highly respected citizen, always with a kindly greeting for his friends. In his years of retirement, while not active, he continued to maintain an interest in the daily affairs. Collingwood Enterprise-Bulletin, Apr. 4, 1940.

 

Susan J. Pinch Adams

September 20, 1852 ~ April 20, 1890

Mrs. Susan Adams after a long illness died on Sunday, April 20, 1890, leaving a family of small children. Mr. Adams has the sympathy of the people of this Settlement. Collingwood Enterprise-Bulletin, Apr. 24, 1890.
