----- MARRIAGE -----

Gilbert—Souch

Leafy June and balmy October are reasons often reflected, on account of the charms they bring, for an event so important as a wedding. But winter, too, has its advantage for similar occasions, for it renders to indoor scenes a delight, that, summer with al its beautiful surroundings cannot contribute. Such a scene took place at the residence of Mr. Samuel Souch, proprietor of the Flour Mills, situated on the stream at the east end of our town, last evening, February 13, 1901, when his second daughter, Minnie May, was united in marriage to Mr. Arthur Gilbert of the firm Gilbert & Son, Produce dealers of our town the ceremony being performed at 7 p.m. by Rev. W. J. Joliffe, pastor of the Methodist church, in the presence of a number of intimate friends and relatives of both parties. The bride—as brides generally do—looked charming, in a skirt of new blue, with azure blue silk waist, trimmed with white? point lace. The bridesmaid, Miss Leeta Bennett, of Peterboro, and niece of the bride, was attired in shaded stripe silk waist and dark green skirt, and also looked lovely; while the groom was assisted by Mr. N. S. Souch, brother of the bride. The presents were numerous, including many beautiful and costly articles. After congratulations, the company sat down to the Wedding Supper, following which the rest of the evening was merrily spent in pleasant chat interspersed with sonsgs and instrumental music. Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert left the same evening, amid showers of rice and old shoes, for their home, corner Ontario and Argyle streets. West Durham News, Feb. 14, 1901.
