Gordon Percy Souch  (1885 ~ 1975)

 

4.4.2.3. Third child of Samuel E. Souch and Harriet P. Bradley, Gordon Percy Souch, was born December 3, 1885, in Enfield, Darlington Twp., Durham Co., Ontario.

  He married (1) Rubina Bessie “Ruby” Kennedy, daughter of John Richard Kennedy and Susan Guinn, May 30, 1914, in Medicine Hat, Alberta and had four children:

  Gordon P. Souch died November 13, 1975, aged 89 years and Rudy Kennedy Souch died November 16, 1951, aged 64 years in Edmonton, Alberta and are interred at Mount Pleasant Municipal Cemetery.

Souch—Kennedy

A quiet and very pretty wedding took place this evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. B. F. Souch, Second St., when Miss Ruby Kennedy, daughter of Mr. John Kennedy and sister of Mrs. B. F. Souch was united in marriage to Mr. Gordon P. Souch, Phm.B., brother of Mr. B. F. Souch. At 5 o’clock to the joyous  strains of the wedding march played by Miss Dorothy Souch of Alberta College, Edmonton, sister of the bridegroom, the young people entered the drawing room. They were attended by Miss Edythe Souch, who was the charming little flower girl, and Master Bertram Souch, who was responsible for the ring. The ceremony was performed by Rev. J. A. Haw in the presence of family relatives. The bride was attired in white silk poplin with veil caught with lilies of the valley and carried a bouquet of bridal roses. At 6 o’clock a dainty luncheon was served. The travelling gown was Hague Blue. The tour will include Vancouver, Victoria, Portland, Seattle and other western cities, after which Mr. and Mrs. Souch will take up residence at 5th St. A, S.E., city.—Medicine Hat News. Gordon P. Souch

December 3, 1885 ~ November 13, 1975

Funeral services were to be held today for one of Alberta’s first chiropractors.

  Dr. Gordon P. Souch, 89, of 8510 104th St., was born in Bowmanville, Ont., and graduated in pharmacy from the University of Toronto in 1908. He practised pharmacy in Castor and then attended the Palmer College of Chiropractic in the United States.

 He returned to Alberta in 1923 and settled for a few years in Medicine Hat.

  Dr. Souch married Ruby Kennedy of Medicine Hat in 1914.

  The couple moved to Edmonton in 1926 and Dr. Souch continued his chiropractic practice. During the 1930s he set up offices in Red Deer, Vegreville and Fairview.

  Although he was semi-retired when he was 70, some of his patients still went to him when he was in his 80s.

  Dr. Souch’s wife died in 1951 and he married Margaret Berthe in 1956.

  Dr. Souch had been an active member of the Metropolitan Church, the Granite Curling Club and the Edmonton Lawn Bowling Club.

  A few years ago the couple travelled with the bowling club to New Zealand and Australia.

  Dr. Souch is survived by his wife Margaret; one son, Sam, of Edmonton; three daughters, Mrs. Margaret Pigg, of Port Arthur, Texas; Mrs. Mary Vair Wilkinson, of Vancouver, and Mrs. Carol Betts, of Prince George, B.C.

  The memorial service was to be at 2 p.m. at Knox Metropolitan United Church. Edmonton Journal, Nov. 15, 1975.

 

Ruby B. Kennedy Souch

November 10, 1887 ~ November 16, 1951

Mrs. Gordon Souch, 8506 104 St., wife of an Edmonton chiropractor, died Friday, November 16, 1951 at the age of 64.

  Mrs. Souch was born in Walkerton, Ont., the youngest daughter of the late John Kennedy of Medicine Hat. She spent her early years in Ripley, Ont., moving with her family to Medicine Hat in 1901. She married Dr. Souch in 1914.

  Mrs. Souch is survived by four children: Dr. Samuel R. Souch, of Edmonton; Dr. Margaret Pigg, of Port Arthur, Texas; Mrs. J. Stanley Wilkinson, of Calgary, and Mrs. Glen J. Betts, of Vancouver. One sister, Mrs. J. M. MacDonald, resides in Detroit.

  Mrs. Souch belonged to Metropolitan United Church and was active in the Women’s Missionary Society.

  Funeral services will be held in Metropolitan United Church Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. Rev. R. E. Vipond and Rev. R. M. Thompson will officiate. Edmonton Journal, Nov. 19, 1951.
