----- OBITUARIES -----

Elizabeth Elford Vanstone

June 18, 1825 ~ November 3, 1884

On Tuesday last, amid a descending storm of rain, there was borne through our streets, followed by a large number of friends, the mortal remains of the above highly esteemed lady. The suddenness of her death, as well as the goodness and usefulness of her life, called forth expressions of surprise, regard and sympathy. The deceased was the daughter of the late William Elford, of Providence, and was one of a numerous family, many of whom survive her. In early life she became a decided Christian, united with the Bible Christian church and evidenced the reality of her faith and the sincerity of her profession, by a life full of charity and good works.

Her marriage with Mr. Vanstone was a most happy one, and through a period of about 36 years, she was to him a true helpmeet, untiring in service, judicious in counsel, ardent in affection, and ruling well the household. To the large family she was in the fullest sense a mother, affectionate and considerate, prudent and firm, a teacher and pattern.

Her residence was a home where husband and family found happiness, to which the poor found access, at which the afflicted sought relief and sympathy, where the ministers of the Gospel were ever welcome, and in which God was daily honored and worshipped.

Both at Tyrone and in Bowmanville, she lived in the affectionate regard and esteem of the entire community and the sorrowing friends have sincere sympathy in their great and irreparable loss. Bowmanville News, Nov. 7, 1884.
