Florence Ada Tilley (1876 ~ 1965)
4.5.4.5. Fifth child of Selina A. Vanstone and William E. Tilley, Florence Ada Tilley, was born March 1, 1876, in Tyrone, Darlington Twp., Durham Co., Ontario.
She married Alfred Newton Mitchell, son of John C. Mitchell and Maria Jardine, June 23, 1903, in Bowmanville, Darlington Twp., Durham Co. and had three children:

Florence A. Tilley Mitchell died May 9, 1965, aged 89 years, and Alfred N. Mitchell died February 25, 1963, aged 86 years in Toronto, Ontario and are interred at Mount Pleasant Cemetery.

Tilley—Mitchell
The marriage of Miss Florence Tilley, only daughter of Dr. W. E. Tilley, Inspector Public School, and Mr. Alfred Mitchell, B.A., advertising manager of the Manufacturers Life Association, eldest son of Dr. J. C. Mitchell, Physician at the Provincial Asylum, Toronto, was celebrated in the Methodist Church, yesterday. The rostrum was beautifully decorated with palms, peonies and syringle by the bride’s colleages in the choir. At half-past twelve the bride leaning on the arm of her father entered the church and advanced to the altar, Rev. D. O. Crossley, pastor of the church, performed the ceremony. The bride was handsomely gowned in white duchess satin prettily shirred and trimmed with Irish point lace and seed pearls. The long white veil was daintily caught up with orange blossoms and she carried a shower bouquet of white roses and sweet peas. The bridesmaids were Miss May Vanstone, cousin of the bride, and Miss Lola Ronan, Toronto, who wore dresses of white organdie trimmed with insertion and rose point lace, apple green sash ends and green and white shepherdess hats and carried bouquets of white carnations. Miss Dorothy Tilley, niece of the bride, made a pretty little flower girl in dress and hat of white. The groom was supported by the bride’s brother, Mr. Herbert R. Tilley, manager of the Confederation Life Association in the West Indies.
The ushers were Messrs. J. H. R. Gillespie, B.A., C. R. Fitzgerald, B.A., Toronto, C. Mackenzie McKay, Woodstock, and Dr. J. H. Elliott, Gravenhurst. Preceding and during the ceremony a musical program was rendered by Mrs. W. Arthur Gregory, Brantford. Very many beautiful gifts were received by the bride. The groom’s gift was a crown pendant set with pearls. To the bridesmaids and organist he gave lace pins with pearls crowns and to the groomsman and ushers stick pins with pearl crowns. On Monday, February 25, 1963, at his residence, 225 Russell Hill Rd., Alfred Newton Mitchell, beloved husband of Florence Tilley; father of Mrs. G. A. Adamson (Helen) and Mrs. A. E. Gallie (Mary). Family service Grace Church-on-the-Hill on Tuesday, February 26, at 1:30 in the afternoon. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make donations to the Ontario Heart Foundation.
