Ada L. Vanstone Northcote

March 25, 1851 ~ February 6, 1899

Our citizens were shocked on Monday to hear that Mrs. A. Northcote, widow of the late Franklin Northcote, of Welcome, had expired very suddenly. Deceased has not been feeling very well of late but nothing serious was anticipated. She went for a short walk in the middle of the forenoon thinking the fresh air might do her good and after making some calls went into Mrs. James Gale’s and told her she was not feeling well.  Mrs. Gale went into another room to get something to relieve her and was shocked on her return to fine her insensible. One of the neighbors was called and Dr. A. S. Tilley, deceased’s nephew, was summoned but before help could reach her, the spirit had taken its flight. Great sympathy is expressed for the children—Miss Mabel Northcote, organist, Wellington St. Methodist church, Brantford, and Messrs. Franklin and Norman Northcote, in the employ of P. W. Ellis & Co., Wholesale Jewelers, Toronto, and also for her aged father, Samuel Vanstone, Esq., who has been living with her and her brothers, sisters and other relatives here. Deceased was a consistent member of the Methodist church, an earnest, Christian woman and the sudden call from earth was sudden glory. She has taught music for several years and many in this town and district have received their musical education under her tuition who now with a host of other friends join in heartfelt sympathy with those who have so suddenly been bereaved. The funeral takes place this (Wednesday) afternoon from the residence of her brother-in-law, Dr. W. E. Tilley, Church St., to Bowmanville Cemetery. Bowmanville Statesman, Feb. 8, 1899.
