I. May Vanstone

May 19, 1880 ~ July 5, 1953

The sudden death of Miss Ida May Vanstone, Toronto, on Sunday, July 5, 1953, came as a shock to her family and wide circle of friends, both in Toronto and in her native county of Durham. Miss Vanstone’s passing was the result of a heart attack. She was in her 74th year.

Born at Tyrone, deceased was daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Vanstone, and moved to Bowmanville with her parents upon her father’s purchase of the mill here. For many years, she lived with her family in the residence on Westmount, overlooking the lovely mill pond and property which provide one of the beauty spots and landmarks of the town. After the passing of her father, she took up residence in Toronto with her mother where she was a valued member of Eaton Memorial Church and its organizations.

Rev. Harold A. Turner, minister of St. Paul’s United Church, conducted the funeral service which was largely attended and was held at the Morris Funeral Chapel on July 7th. Pallbearers were nephews of the deceased: Messrs. Jabez, Morley and Byron Vanstone, Dr. Ron. Stuart, Don. Stillings and Frank Vanstone. Interment was in Bowmanville Cemetery.

Evidence of the esteem in which Miss Vanstone was held were the many beautiful tributes, including those of relatives, friends, Eaton Memorial Church and Women’s Missionary Society.

Attending the funreal were friends and relatives from Montreal, Detroit, Pontiac, Toronto and Waterloo.

Two brothers, Fred C. Vanstone, Bowmanville and Byron S. Vanstone, Toronto, survive to mourn her passing. Bowmanville Statesman, July 16, 1953.
