----- OBITUARY -----

Wilfred A. Vanstone

August 18, 1885 ~ March 7, 1906

Many friends in this town and vicinity were surprised and grieved to learn of the death of Mr. Wilfrid Vanstone, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur L. Vanstone, Brantford, formerly of Bowmanville, who died March 7, 1906, of Bright’s disease. The Brantford Expositor says: “For some time Wilfrid Vanstone has been in failing health and despite the care of relatives and the best medical attention, he gradually grew worse. This week it was apparent that the end was but a matter of a few days, and last evening the patient slept peacefully away, surrounded by the immediate relatives. Deceased who was in his 21st year, was a young man possessed of a naturally bright and winning disposition and of unusual ability. An evidence of his attainments in the education sphere was given a few years ago when he passed the entrance examinations at the age of 12 and in addition secured the highest marks of any candidate writing in this city. He was suitably rewarded for this achievement of scholarship. In a musical way he was also gifted and for some years had been organist at Wellington street church Sunday school and had frequently supplied at the pipe organ. Always genial, cheerful and obliging Wilfrid Vanstone made scores of friends in Brantford, all of whom will keenly regret his death and will extend sympathy to the bereaved family. The funeral takes place on Friday afternoon from the family home on Charlotte street to Greenwood cemetery.”

Messrs. Fred C. and Byron S. Vanstone, Miss Margaret and Messrs. Fred. and Paul Trebilcock attended the funeral. Bowmanville Statesman, Mar. 14, 1906.
