Cornelius Elford died January 27, 1922, aged 71 years in Henry, South Dakota, U.S and is interred at Lorinda Cemetery.

Cornelius Elford
March 19, 1851 ~ January 27, 1922
Cornelius Elford, aged 71 years who has been a continuous resident of Henry, South Dakota, for forty years died at his home, January 27, 1922, after an illness of a few months. He came from Darlington, Durham County, Canada in 1881 with William McQuaker and made a homestead entry of the land where he died. He was a good citizen who had the respect of all who knew him. He never married but made his home with the family of his sister, Mrs. E. J. Norris, who came to Dakota in 1883 to enter land joining his, and so he had been a member of the Norris family ever since those pioneer days. He was a man of industry and good habits. As a business man he was progressive without being a plunger, and he leaves a valuable estate.
Funeral services were held in the Methodist church which was crowded with friends and neighbours who had gathered to pay their respects to the departed. Edgar Norris, a nephew, and Mrs. Ernest Reineke, a niece, are the only other near relatives.
Mr. Elford was born near Bowmanville and was nephew of Mrs. Jane Allin, Centre St., Bowmanville. He has taken The Statesman nearly all his life and was a prompt paying subscriber. Bowmanville Statesman, Feb. 23, 1922.
