Mary Aileen Montgomery  (1928 ~ )

 

4.7.2.1. First child of W. Herbert Montgomery and May Liggett, Mary Aileen Montgomery, was born October 17, 1928, in Midland, Simcoe Co., Ontario. 

  She married James Frederick Wallace, son of William Ross Wallace and Annie Pearl Marshall, on December 27, 1952, in Midland, Ontario and had two children:  

 

  • (4.7.2.1.1)  Margaret JeanPeggy”  (1955 ~ )

  • (4.7.2.1.2)  Frederick William  (1960 ~ )

 

  M. Aileen Montgomery Wallace died August 19, 2021, aged 92 years, in Midland, Ontario and James F. Wallace died July 26, 2006, aged 81 years in Penetanguishene, Ontario.

The marriage took place in St. Paul’s Church, Midland, December 27, 1952, of Mary Aileen Montgomery, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Montgomery, R.R.1, Wyebridge, and James Frederick Wallace, only son of Mr. and Mrs. William Wallace, Midland.

  Rev. W. R. Auld performed the ceremony, assisted by Rev. R. S. Hiltz of Victoria Harbour. Alex Docherty, church organist, played the wedding music and accompanied the soloist, Miss Joan Langman, Elmvale.

  The bride, given in marriage by her father, chose a ballerina-length gown of peach velvet fashioned with a yoke and finger-tip sleeves of matching lace. A braided velvet headband held her shoulder-length veil of scalloped peach net and she carried a white Bible garlanded with pink roses and silver streamers.

  Matron of honor was Mrs. Graham Jones, sister of the bride, and Miss Norma Fallis was bridesmaid. Each wore a ballerina-length gown of peacock blue velvet, matching mitts, and a headdress of braided velvet and feathers. Their flowers were pink and white ‘mums. As flowergirl, Miss Lynda Broadhead was also in peacock blue velvet with a velvet headdress. She carried a nosegay of pink and white ‘mums.

  Donald Marshall, cousin of the groom, was best man and Joseph Montgomery and Garnet Armstrong acted as ushers.

  Following the ceremony, a reception for 60 guests were held at the home of the bride’s parents. Her mother received, wearing a frock of rose-grey corded silk, grey accessories and a corsage of pink roses. Assisting, the groom’s mother was in navy lace and crepe, with navy and grey accessories. Her corsage was of red roses. Out-of-town guests were present from Windsor, Toronto, Guelph, Sunderland, Elmvale and Stroud.

  Leaving for their wedding trip to Victoria and Vancouver, B.C., the bride donned a suit of brown wool with gold-coloured hat and gloves. Her shoes and bag were of brown alligator and she wore a brown and beige topcoat.

M. Aileen Montomery Wallace

Passed away peacefully at Georgian Bay General Hospital (GBGH) on Thursday August 19, 2021 in her 93rd year. Beloved wife of the late Jim Wallace. Loving mother of Peggy and Fred (Sandy). Remembered by her sister-in-law Mary Montgomery. Predeceased by her sister Jean Jones Isaac and her brother Joe Montgomery. Beloved Aunt Susie to her Jones nieces and nephews and loving aunt to her Montgomery nieces and nephews. She will be sadly missed by her extended family and friends. Aileen began her teaching career at the old 6th Street School in Midland. She also taught at Regent Public School and Huron Park Public School before retiring. She was an active member of Knox Presbyterian Church, teaching Sunday School, leading the Explorers group, participating in the WMS and serving as an elder. The family wish to thank Dr. Rafikov and staff at GBGH for their care and compassion during the last week of her life. The family also extends a huge thank you to the staff at the Villa Retirement Lodge for providing a welcoming home environment for Mom during her five years in residence. Visitation, at the J.H. Lynn Chapel of Carson Funeral Homes, Midland, is Wednesday August 25th between 2:00 and 4:00 PM and Thursday August 26th from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. The funeral service will be held August 26th at 11:00 AM in the Chapel followed by interment at Lakeview Cemetery in Midland. Please call the funeral home to reserve a slot for the service as there is a limited number of spots. Masks are mandatory inside the funeral home and social distancing is practiced. James F. Wallace

April 14, 1925 ~ July 26, 2006

James Frederick Wallace (Veteran of WWII, Royal Canadian Navy. Retired employee of Canada Post after 30 years service. Member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #80, Midland. Jim sailed for a number of years on the Great Lakes). Passed away at the Penetanguishene Hospital on Wednesday, July 26, 2006 in his 82nd year. Beloved husband of Aileen Montgomery. Dear father of Peggy and Fred. Beloved uncle of Jones and Montgomery nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Nicholls Funeral Home, 330 Midland Ave. Midland on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the Chapel on Saturday July 29th at 11 a.m. Cremation to follow.
