Margaret Lavina Montgomery  (1900 ~ 1990)

 

4.7.8. Eighth child of Isabella Adams and Joseph Samuel Montgomery, Margaret Lavina Montgomery, was born October 9, 1900, in Tay Twp., Simcoe Co., Ontario. 

  She married Elwood Alexander Fagan, son of John Alexander Fagan and Mary Margaret Sproul, on June 8, 1921, in Victoria Harbour, Tay Twp., Simcoe Co., Ontario and had eight children:  

 

 

  Margaret L. Montgomery Fagan died July 1, 1990, aged 89 years in Penetanguishene, Ontario and Elwood A. Fagan died May 31, 1979, aged 85 years in Stroud, Ontario are interred at Waverley United Cemetery.

Margaret L. Montgomery Fagan

Funeral services were held July 4, 1990 for the late Margaret L. Fagan at Nicholls Funeral Home in Midland, the Reverend Lilian Patey as officiating clergy.

  Mrs. Fagan passed away July 1, 1990 at Georgian Manor after a lengthy illness.

  Mrs. Fagan (nee Montgomery) was born in Tay Township and married the late Elwood A. Fagan on June 8, 1921.

  Mrs. Fagan was a member of the United Church, the United Church Women and the Women’s Institute.

  She is survived by the son Grant of Midland and daughters Velma (Mrs. Lloyd Parker), Alberta (Mrs. Philip Meech) of Midland, Orma (Mrs. Jim Kerr) of London, Leila (Mrs. Grant Wallace) of Calgary and Betty Ann (Mrs. Ken Bartholomew) of Toronto. She is further survived by her 23 grandchildren and her sister Ena Grigg of Midland.

  Mrs. Fagan was predeceased by her husband Elwood and children Isobel and Orvil.

 Pallbearers at the funeral were her grandsons, Steven Bartholomew, David and Douglas Wallace, Bruce and Bill MacPherson and Don and Robert Meech.

 Friends and relatives attending the funeral were from Calgary, London, Toronto, Bolton, Owen Sound, Barrie, Stroud, Midland and the surrounding area.

  Interment was at Waverley United Church Cemetery. Midland Free Press, July 25, 1990.

 

Elwood A. Fagan

March 3, 1894 ~ May 31, 1979

At his home, R.R.1, Stroud, on Thursday, May 31, 1979, Elwood Alexander Fagan, in his 86th year, beloved husband of Marjorie Montgomery. Dear father of Grant and Velma (Mrs. Lloyd Parker), both of R.R.1, Midland, Orville of Barrie, Alberta (Mrs. Phil Meech) of Midland, Orma (Mrs. James Kerr) of London, Leila (Mrs. Grant Wallace) of Calgary, Betty (Mrs. Ken Bartholomew) of Toronto. Isobel Ironside and Linda Sangster both predeceased. Lovingly remembered by 21 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; brother of Lewis and Lennox, both of Toronto, Fred, Mrs. Ina Nichols and Mrs. Mabel Vasey, all of Midland, George and Cecil, both predeceased. Resting at the Steckley Funeral Home, 30 Worsley St., Barrie, after 2 p.m. Saturday. Funeral service in the chapel on Monday, June 4, at 1:30 p.m. Interment Waverley United Cemetery. Orange and Black Lodge Service Saturday evening at 8 o’clock under auspices of LOL No. 605, Craigvale. Barrie Examiner, June 1, 1979.

 

J. Alexander Fagan

June 8, 1868 ~ January 8, 1951

Following an illness of two months, John Alexander Fagan died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Walter Nichols, 257 Yonge St., Midland, on January 8, 1951. He was in his 83rd year.

  Funeral services were held from the A. Barrie and Sons funeral home on January 11. Rev. J. H. Anderson conducted the services, assisted by W. R. Auld. Temporary interment was made at Lakeview Cemetery Vault. The body will later rest in Waverley Anglican Cemetery.

  Pallbearers were his six grandsons, Alvin, Orval, Grant and John Fagan, Lennox Vasey and Harold Nichols.

  A farmer all his life, Mr. Fagan was born in Innisfil Twp. on June 8, 1868. He lived in that township until 1900, when he moved to Ebenezer, in Tay Township. Mr. Fagan farmed in that area for 48 years, moving to Wyebridge on November 16, 1948.

  On December 4, 1890, Mr. Fagan married Mary Sproul, who predeceased him on July 6, 1950. He was a member of the official board of the United Church and Conservative in politics.

  Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Meredith Vasey (Mabel), Port McNicoll, and Mrs. Walter Nichols (Ina), Midland; and six sons, Elwood, Stroud; Fred and Cecil, Midland R.R.; George, Stayner; Lewis and Lennox, Toronto.

  There is also a brother, Thomas Fagan, Crossland; two sisters, Mrs. Robert Graham and Mrs. Haines, Stroud; 27 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Midland Free Press, Jan. 17, 1951.
