Thomasine Elford Munro

April 13, 1835 ~ March 22, 1927

A highly respected citizen in the person of Thomasine Elford Munro of 809 Chandler Ave., Detroit, was called to rest on March 22, 1927, at the age of 92 years. She was a daughter of the late William and Elizabeth Elford of Darlington, who owned and cleared the farm now occupied by Mr. Harvey Barrie, near Providence Church.

She was united in marriage with G. K. Munro of Oshawa, where they lived for 30 years; then in Toronto for 5 years; later moving to Detroit where her husband predeceased her 28 years ago. Mrs. Munro had three brothers, William Elford of Hampton; John Elford of the homestead; and Peter Elford of Michigan; also five sisters, Mrs. Mathew Joness on the farm, now occupied by Col. R. J. Gill; Mrs. William Souch, Enniskillen; Mrs. Samuel Vanstone, Bowmanville, Mrs. William Smale, Providence; and Mrs. Samuel Allin, Centre St., Bowmanville, all of whom have passed on before her.

Mrs. G. K. Munro was an active member of the Metropolitan Episcopal Church in Detroit, attending service and social functions at the age of 91. Her life was sweet and beautiful filled with sincerity and kindness devoted to her home, her children, her friends, always looking after the care of others.

The funeral took place from her late home on Friday, March 18, to Woodmere Cemetery, Detroit. Service was conducted by her Pastor, Dr. Allin.

The pall-bearers were six nephews—Charles, George, Stanley Munro; George and Byron McWood and John Fezzy.

The floral offerings were beautiful including tributes from the Detroit friends also from R. L. K. Munro, 4 Sylvian Ave., Toronto, Drs. Edgar and Norman Allin, Edmonton, also from nephew’s at Bowmanville and Hampton.

She leaves to mourn her loss two daughters and four sons, Mrs. Fezzy and George Munro with whom she lived, Mrs. Arthur McWood, Charles Munro and Fred Munro, also of Detroit and R. L. K. Munro, Toronto.

Those attending the funeral from Canada were her son, R. L. K. Munro, Toronto, and Mr. Albert H. and Miss Annie Allin, Bowmanville.

Do not ask us if we miss her

Oh, there’s such a vacant place,

Often we think we hear her footsteps

Or we see her smiling face.

Sad sad mournful was our parting,

Lonely are our hearts today,

For the ones we loved so dearly,

Has forever passed away. Bowmanville Statesman, Mar. 31, 1927.
