Charles Frederick Barton  (1891 ~ 1953)

 

5.2.2.1. First child of Jennie E. Lilley and T. Frederick Barton, Charles Frederick Barton, was born July 7, 1891, in Chicago, Illinois, U.S. 

  He married Carmen Beatrice Johns, daughter of Milford Lewellyn Johns and Katherine Mossop, March 26, 1914, in New York City, N.Y., U.S. and had three children:

  • (5.2.2.1.2)  Charles Frederick  (1916 ~ 2005)

  • (5.2.2.1.3)  Jane Carmen  (1918 ~ 2004)

 

  C. Frederick Barton died October 5, 1953, aged 62 years, in Livingston, N.J., U.S. and Carmen B. Johns Barton died February 5, 1945, aged 54 years in Montclair, N.J., U.S. and are interred at Rosedale Cemetery.

C. Frederick Barton

Ex-War Production Unit Head Dies After a 2-Month Illness

C. Fred Barton, of 26 Crescent Road, Livingston, N.J., former chief of railroad material division of the War Production Board in Washington during World War II, died yesterday [October 5, 1953] in Mountainside Hospital, Montclair, after a two-month illness. He was 62.

  Retired the last four years, Mr. Barton previously had been employed as a sales engineer with Ulster Iron Works in New York City, where he worked 30 years. He also had been employed by Joseph P. Ryerson & Co. in Chicago and American La France, Inc., in New York.

  Born in Chicago, Mr. Barton had lived in Montclair for nearly 39 years before moving to Livingston four years ago. He was a graduate of the University of Illinois.

Services Wednesday

  Mr. Barton leaves two daughters, Mrs. Everett A. Tyler of Livingston and Mrs. James E. Duffy of Cedar Grove; a son, Charles F. Barton Jr. of St. Louis; two sisters, Miss Edna L. Barton of Richmond, Va., and Mrs. David Richmond of Huntington, W. Va.; two brothers, Marshall Barton of Tennessee and James Barton of Texas and two grandchildren.

  Services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at George Van Tassel’s Community Funeral Home, 337 Belleville Ave., Bloomfield. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery. Newark Evening News, Oct. 5, 1953.

 

Carmen B. Johns Barton

September 5, 1890 ~ February 5, 1945

Mrs. Carmen Johns Barton, wife of C. Fred Barton, died Monday, February 5, 1945 at her home, 48 Tuxedo Road, Montclair, N.J., of a cerebral hemorrhage. She was 54.

  Mrs. Barton had been active in the American Red Cross and British War Relief Society. Surviving are her husband, a son, First Lieutenant Charles F. Barton Jr., with the Army overseas, and two daughters, Mrs. Everett A. Tyler and Miss Jane C. Barton.

  Friends may call at the Home for Services (Arthur K. Brown, Inc.), 56 Park St., at Claremont Ave., Montclair, until 10 o’clock, Friday morning. Services will be held at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Montclair Ave., corner Chestnut St., Montclair, Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock. Interment Rosedale Cemetery. Eleanor L. Barton Tyler

December 31, 1914 ~ August 3, 2004

Eleanor B. Tyler, of Somers, N.Y., former resident of Livingston, N.J., died on Tuesday, August 3, 2004 peacefully at home with her family. She was 89. Mrs. Tyler was born December 31, 1914 in Montclair, N.J. On May 28, 1936, she married Everett A. Tyler. She will be greatly missed by her family and dear friends.  She was a daily part of their lives. Mrs. Tyler will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, sister and aunt. She is survived by a daughter, Carole Carter and son-in-law, James of Somers; three grandchildren: Sue Andersen and her husband, Troy of Somers; Jeff Carter and wife, Sheree of Pennsylvania, Jeanne Hough and husband, Eric of Somers. Eleanor was also blessed with seven great-grandchildren: Elaine, Jake and Mark Andersen; Christina Carter, Jessica Gaumer, Kelsey and Evan Hough and a brother, Charles Barton of Missouri. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 53 years, Everett; beloved sister, Jane Duffy, who passed away in January. Calling hours are Friday, August 6, 2-4 and 7-9 pm at Clark Funeral Home in Yorktown Heights. A Service will be held Friday evening at 8 pm at Clark Funeral Home in Yorktown. Interment will be on Saturday at 11 am at Restland Memorial Cemetery, E. Hanover, N.J. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Hospice, 100 South Bedford Rd., Mt. Kisco, NY 10549. Charles F. Barton

March 29, 1916 ~ November 16, 2005

St. Louis, Mo. Charles Frederick Barton Jr., 89, of St. Louis, formerly of Montclair, died November 16, 2005.

  Mr. Barton was self-employed, and operated Barton Sales before retiring.

  He was a graduate of Lehigh University, Bethlehem, Pa., and an Army veteran of World War II. Born in East Orange, he lived in Montclair and Florida before moving to Missouri. Surviving are his wife, Gladys; a son, Gary Griffin, and a daughter, Charlene Barton. New Jersey Star-Ledger, Nov. 21, 2005.

 

Jane L. Barton Duffy

February 3, 1918 ~ January 25, 2004

Jane Duffy (nee Barton), of Montville, died on Sunday, January 25, 2004, at Mountainside Hospital, Glen Ridge, N.J., beloved wife of the late James E. Duffy, who passed away on September 10, 1994, loving mother of Brian and his wife, Mary Ann, of Pine Brook, and Eileen Duffy and her husband, John Montesano, of Parsippany, dear sister of Charles Barton of Sarasota, Fla., and Eleanor Tyler of Somers, N.Y., cherished grandmother of Ted and Jamie Montesano and Kelly, Kacie and Kevin Duffy.

  She was a bank teller at National Newark & Essex Trust Co., Montclair, from 1940 to 1949.

  She graduated from Southern Seminary College for Women in Virginia.

  Born in East Orange, Mrs. Duffy lived in Montclair and for 42 years in North Caldwell before moving to Montville three years ago.

  Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral service on Wednesday, February 4, 2004, at 11 a.m. at The Par-Troy Funeral Home, 95 Parsippany Rd., Parsippany. Interment Restland Memorial Park, East Hanover, Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home. New Jersey Star-Ledger, Feb. 7, 2004.
