----- MARRIAGE -----

AdamsCochrane

Burketon. On Wednesday night last, the whole village of Burketon together with others from the surrounding district—totalling in all some one hundred and fifty—gathered together to tender Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Cochrane, a bride and groom of one month, also of that village, a miscellaneous shower. The merrymaking started while the evening was very young and continued to predominate until a very early hour in the morning. Young and old, in fact some who have not danced in years, as well as those who had never danced before joined whole-heartedly in dancing to the excellent old tyme music furnished by the many musicians present. Many tables of cards were also in evidence. Immediately after lunch, Miss Mildred Avery, on behalf of those present wished the popular young people every happiness and presented them with a mountainous pile of gifts. Both Mr. and Mrs. Cochrane replied in a most appreciative way, thanking one and all for their great kindness—Needless to say both the bride and groom were busy for the best part of an hour undoing the wonderful presents and showing them to all. Mrs. Cochrane was before her marriage Miss May Adams, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. Adams, Burketon. Mr. Cochrane being a son of the late George and Mrs. Cochrane also of this village. Donald I. Cochrane

March 22, 1934 ~ September 5, 2022

Don passed away peacefully on Monday, September 5, 2022 at Port Perry Villa. He is now joining his loving wife, Freida. He will be missed by his children Cal (Margaret), Lorie (Cal) and Phil (Sonya). Don was a special Grandpa to Lona (Chris), Dana (Colin), Paige (Mike), Catherine (Andy), Nathan (Christina) and Stuart (Brooke). He was also the Great Grandfather to Brea, Ethan, Cameron, Andrew, Jordan, Wade, Ethan, Grace, Anna, Bella and Jonathan. Don will also be greatly missed by his sisters Doreen, Joyce and Judy (Rick); also, by his sister-in-law Peg and all his nieces and nephews. Don was born in Bowmanville in 1934. He was raised on a farm outside of Blackstock where he enjoyed playing sports. Don was an excellent athlete playing soccer, baseball and hockey which he really excelled at. Don started working at General Motors when he was 15, and continued to work there for over 30 years. Don became a supervisor at G.M. and many of his old workers said that he was the best boss they had ever had. After Don’s hockey and ball playing days, he turned his efforts to coaching. He influenced many young people who still called him a friend today. Don was also on the executive of both minor softball and minor hockey. Don was inducted into the Port Perry Sports Hall of Fame in 2015. After working at G.M., he had a hobby farm on Scugog Island to keep him busy. This little farm got him going to auctions, which he took to, and started Cochrane Auctions which ran for over 25 years. Don also did 2 terms as Town Councilor for Scugog Island. There are a lot of people he met through all his endeavours and many still call him a friend. Even with all this, he still said his best accomplishment was his family, who together with Freida, raised 3 children, 6 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. The family would like to thank the Port Perry Villa, Steve Carnegie for his Monday morning visits, Sandy Durham for her kind care-giving and Doreen English for being such a good friend over the last years. This made Dad’s last days better. A Celebration of Life will take place at the Low and Low Funeral Chapel, 1763 Reach Street, Port Perry (905-985-7331) on Saturday, September 24, 2022 from 1-4 p.m. The family asks in lieu of flower that donations can be made to the Port Perry Hospital Foundation.
