----- MARRIAGE -----

AdamsMcMullen

Janetville United Church was beautifully decorated with autumn flowers, the scene of a lovely wedding on October 8, 1949, when Lois Marie McMullen, younger daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bert McMullen of Janetville became the bride of Albert Samuel Adams, of Burketon.

Rev. C. Kellogg was the officiating clergyman.

Miss Elaine Brieu of Dunsford, played the wedding music and previous to the ceremony, Mr. John Burn sang “O Promise Me,” and during the signing of the register “Perfect Day”.

Given in marriage by her father, the bride was lovely in a gown of ivory romance satin, with deep yoke, and panirs of French lace. The long fitted lace sleeves ended in tiny points. Her headdress was dainy coronet of silver and opaque beads from which her veil of French imported illusion cascaded. She carried a bouquet of red roses and white chrysanthemums, centred with a white gardenia, and her only ornament was a dual strand of pearls, the gift of the groom. The bride’s sister, Mrs. Murray Malcolm was matron of honor, and wore a gown of orchid taffeta, carring a bouquet of yellow ‘mums, while Mrs. Robert Carter of Peterborough, sister of the groom, wore daffodil yellow taffeta and carried orchid ‘mums. Both wore matching flower headdresses.

Mr. Murray Malcolm attended the groom and the ushers were: Mr. Grant Williams, Hampton, a cousin of the bride, and Mr. Donald Cochrane, Nestleton.

Following the ceremony a reception was held at the beautiful home of the bride’s parents, when the bride’s mother received, wearing a dress of wine faille. Mrs. Adams, the groom’s mother, assisted and wore a dress of green faille, and both wore corsages of pink and white carnations.

Later the happy young couple left on a honeymoon trip to Ottawa and Montreal, the bride travelling in wine gabardine suit, with navy topcoat and accessories. She wore a corsage of gardenias. Upon their return Mr. and Mrs. Adams will take up their residence in Burketon, Ont. Bowmanville Statesman, Nov. 3, 1949.
