Ross Alymer Adams  (1922 ~ 2015)

 

5.3.14.1. First child of Zachariah D. Adams and Margaret S. Elford, Ross Alymer Adams, was born August 26, 1922, in Haydon, Darlington Twp., Durham Co., Ontario. 

  He married Margaret EvaPeggyAlsford, daughter of Jack Alsford and Gladys Gilson, August 13, 1949, in Slough, Buckinghamshire, England and had five children:

  Ross A. Adams died January 3, 2015, aged 92 years, in Bowmanville, Ontario and Margaret E. “PeggyAlsford Adams died September 14, 2007, aged 79 years, in Oshawa, Ontario and are interred at Hampton Union Cemetery.

----- MARRIAGE -----

A wedding of interest to the people of Holcombe, England, took place on August 13, 1949 at the Methodist church, Slough, Bucks., between Miss Margaret Eva Alsford, eldest daughter of Mrs. G. Alsford, of Slough, and Mr. Ross Alymer Adams, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Z. Adams, of Ontario, Canada.

  The bride, who was given in marriage by her uncle, wore a gown of embossed satin and silk with veil. She carried a shower bouquet of red carnations. She was attended by Miss Anita Alsford (sister) and Miss Mary Warrell (friend) who wore dresses of red crepe and carried bouquets of white carnations.

  Mr. John Gilson (cousin of the bride) was best man. The reception was attended by 40 guests. The bride and bridegroom sailed for Canada on August 24, 1949, where they will make their home. Somerset Guardian, Sept. 9, 1949.

Ross A. Adams

August 26, 1922 ~ January 3, 2015

A resident of Kingsway Arms, Bowmanville, formerly of Oshawa, Ross Alymer Adams, in his 93rd year, died peacefully on Saturday, January 3, 2015, at Lakeridge Health, Bowmanville.

  Son of the late Zachariah and Margaret (Elford) Adams, Bowmanville, he descended from pioneers who settled here from Co. Monaghan, Ireland in 1834 and was born August 26, 1922 in Haydon, Darlington Twp., Ont.

  He was a veteran of the Second World War, being part of The Black Watch Regiment. While in England he met and married his late wife, the former Margaret EvaPeggyAlsford (2007) on August 13, 1949. They sailed to Canada shortly afterwards and lived in Bowmanville before settling in Oshawa in 1964, where they raised their four children.

  Employed by General Motors he retired in 1986.

  Surviving are his four children: Gail Grant, Oshawa; Roslyn Muir, Newcastle; Terry Adams, Bowmanville and Tracy Lincmajer, Courtice; eight grandchildren: Troy Grant, Revelstoke, B.C.; Rhonda (Raymond) Buller, Oshawa; Ryan Grant, Toronto; Amanda (Adam) Millson, Pontypool; Emily Muir  (Jennifer McCall), Courtice; Matthew (Tancy) Muir, Pontypool, Christopher Lincmajer (Ashley Magee), Caesarea; and Jessica Lincmajer (Terry Dymond), Oshawa; and seven great-grandchildren: Travis, Ella, Cole, Chase, Brayden, Abigayle and Rachel. He is also survived by his brothers, Murray (Ada) Adams, Bryce and Blaine Adams, all of Bowmanville. Predeceased by brothers, Berwin (2000), Wayburn (2003), Samuel (2009) and Garry (1956); one sister, Marguerite (2004), Mrs. Allan Beacock; and one son, Larry (1953). 

  A true family man who enjoyed the simplest and most meaningful pleasures, his proudest achievement is undoubtedly the rich legacy of love he leaves behind in those who cherish his memory. 

  Our lives have been shaped and richened by the wealth of memories you have bestowed on each of us, and these pieces of you we hold tightly in our hearts forever.

  A visitation will be held at the Morris Funeral Chapel, 4 Division St., Bowmanville on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 from 2-4 and 7-9. A funeral service in the Morris Chapel on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at 1 p.m. Cremation. Interment Hampton Union Cemetery.

Margaret E. “PeggyAlsford Adams

March 18, 1928 ~ September 14, 2007

With sadness and a profound sense of gratitude and love for a wonderful woman, the Adams family announces the passing of Peggy Adams on Friday, September 14, 2007, in her 80th year after a short illness. 

  Born Margaret Eva Alsford, first child of the late Jack Alsford and Gladys Gilson, she was born March 18, 1928 at Slough, Buckinghamshire, England. 

  On August 13, 1949 she married Ross Alymer Adams, son of the late Zachariah David Adams and Margaret Susan Elford of Bowmanville, and they started their married life in Bowmanville after sailing to Canada shortly after their nuptials in her hometown. In 1964 they moved to 44 Thorncliffe St., Oshawa where they have since resided and spent so many wonderful years watching their children and grandchildren grow up, having become great grandparents last year. She was employed with Sears Canada for 25 years.

   Peggy will be greatly missed after 58 years of marriage to her beloved husband Ross, one son and three daughters: Terry Adams of Bowmanville; Gail Grant of Oshawa; Roslyn (Mrs. Robert Muir) of Newcastle; Tracy Lincmajer of Bowmanville; also eight grandchildren, Troy Grant, Revelstoke, B.C.; Rhonda Grant and her fiance Raymond Buller, Oshawa; Ryan Grant, Toronto; Amanda, (Mrs. Adam Millson), Pontypool; Emily Muir and Matthew Muir at home; Christopher and Jessica Lincmajer of Bowmanville; one great-grandson, Travis Millson; also one sister, Anita Wheeler, of Cambridge and her children Susan, Jayne, Ross and Julie and their families. She was predeceased by a son, Larry Mark Adams, in 1953.

   She will be greatly missed by her cousins Brenda and husband Roy Morris and Mary Button and friends Vera Brimble and Rita and Norm Easterbrook all of England and her many friends and relatives past and present. 

   Relatives and friends may pay their respects at the Morris Funeral Chapel, 4 Division St., Bowmanville on Tuesday, September 18, 2007 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service in the Morris Chapel on Wednesday, September 19, 2007 at 1 p.m. Cremation.  Interment of ashes at Hampton Union Cemetery at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Salvation Army or to the Lakeridge Health – Oshawa, Palliative Care Unit would be appreciated.
