----- MARRIAGE -----
Adams—Sheckleton
At the Presbyterian Manse, Pontypool, on Wednesday, November 1, 1905, by the Rev. D. P. Oswald, Mr. Frederick Charles Adams, of Clarke to Miss Beatrice Ella Sheckleton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. Sheckleton, of Manvers. Bowmanville News, Nov. 9, 1905.
----- OBITUARIES -----
C. Frederick Adams
There passed to rest at his home, Haydon, on January 5, 1938, as a result of a stoke at the age of 58 years, Charles Frederick Adams. His sudden passing came as a great shock to the community although he had not known good health for several years.
The deceased was son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Adams and was born at New Park, Clarke Township. He was married 33 years ago to Miss Ella Sheckleton after which, except for a period of three years in Oshawa, they resided in the communities of Enniskillen and Haydon where he was a successful farmer. From youth he took a keen interest in sport, especially football, and in his younger days he proved himself a most capable player until the breaking of a leg forced him out of active participation. He played the game wholly for the love of the game itself. He had an exceptionally high understanding of and regard for honor and uprightness and knew not the meaning of retaliation. He had an equally high conception for true citizenship. He was a good neighbour and friend. His kindly smile and ever ready hand were known to all.
The funeral services on Friday afternoon were conducted by Rev. Milton Sanderson, B.A., Toronto, a life long friend, assisted by Rev. A. W. March, Tyrone, and Rev. J. E. Whithame, Enniskillen. The large attendance testified in what high esteem the deceased was held. Rev. M. Sanderson spoke very kindly and feelingly to sorrowing relatives and friends. At the graveside in Hampton the Loyal Orange Lodge of which the deceased was a member held an impressive service.
Besides his sorrowing wife and two daughters, Pearl at home, and Mrs. Earl Stephenson, Bowmanville, deceased is survived by five brothers, Wesley of Enniskillen, Ernest of Burketon, James of Hampton, Oscar of New Park, and Zachariah of Newtonville; and three sisters, Mrs. L. Bullied, Toronto, Mrs. R. Winch, Eyebrow, Sask., and Mrs. G. Patterson, Leskard.
The floral tributes were many and beautiful, expressing the sympathy of a wide circle of friends.
Pallbearers were Ernest Adams, Oscar Adams, Zachariah Adams, Earl Adams, Charles Adams and Henry Adams. Members of the Orange Lodge acted as flower bearers.
Relatives from a distance included Mr. and Mrs. F. Coulter, Bowmanville, Mr. and Mrs. C. Coulter, Oshawa, Mr. and Mrs. R. Little, Bowmanville, and Mr. and Mrs. J. Sheckleton, Hampton. Bowmanville Statesman, Jan. 13, 1938.
