Effie Vera Adams  (1901 ~ 1952)

 

5.3.4.1. First child of Martha J. Adams and R. Wesley Fowler, Effie Vera Adams, was born June 18, 1901, in New Park, Clarke Twp., Durham Co., Ontario. 

  She married David George Strong, son of William Strong and Mary Jane Fowler, January 16, 1915, in Oshawa, Ontario and had eight children:

 

 

  Effie V. Adams Strong died June 13, 1952, aged 50 years in Pontypool, Ontario and D. George Strong died September 12, 1955, aged 69 years in Bowmanville, Ontario and are interred at Pontypool Cemetery.

Effie V. Adams Strong

In Pontypool, on Friday, June 13, 1952, Effie Vera Adams, beloved wife of George D. Strong, in her 51st year. Rested at Northcutt & Smith Funeral Home, 53 Division St., Bowmanville, until noon, Monday, June 16, then to the United Church, Pontypool, for service at 2:30 p.m. Interment Pontypool Cemetery. Bowmanville Statesman, June 19, 1952.

 

D. George Strong

February 26, 1886 ~ September 12, 1955

After a lengthy illness David George Strong passed into rest in Memorial Hospital, Bowmanville, on September 12, 1955.

  Deceased was born in Manvers Township, on February 26, 1886, the son of the late William and Mary Jane Strong.

  On January 16, 1915, he married Effie Vera Adams of New Park.

  They lived at Enfield until 1921. He moved west of Enniskillen where he threshed around Tyrone for a number of years. In 1931 he moved to Cartwright Township where he farmed.

  He was highly esteemed among his relatives and many friends for his kindness and unfailing optimism under all circumstances. He was also highly respected among the general public for his generosity and willingness to help in any worthy cause.

  He leaves to mourn their loss four sons and three daughters and 18 grandchildren: (Mary) Mrs. Howard Brown, Pontypool; (Vera) Mrs. Howard McKay, Lindsay; (Jean) Mrs. Albert Knapp, Orono; William, David and Roy, Pontypool; James, Orono.

  His wife predeceased June 13, 1952. Also one sister, Mrs. John Wotten and three brothers, Ed and Harvey, Bowmanville; Henry, Oshawa, one brother John predeceased on November 2, 1939.

  The funeral was held from United Church, Pontypool. Rev. Love conducted the final service from where he was taken to Pontypool Cemetery for his last resting place. There were many beautiful flowers to show the esteem and affection of all who knew him. 

  Pallbearers were six nephews: Dan Knapp, Bowmanville; Murray and Clifford Knapp, Pontypool; Harold and Gerald Strong, Oshawa; and Henry Wotten, Purple Hill. Bowmanville Statesman, Oct. 6, 1955.
