Mary Ethel Eliza Strong (1916 ~ 1999)
5.3.4.1.1. First child of Effie V. Adams and David G. Strong, Mary Ethel Eliza Strong, was born October 28, 1916, in Enniskillen, Darlington Twp., Durham Co., Ontario.
She married Howard John Brown, son of James Henry Brown and Elizabeth Jane Greer, May 16, 1936, in Oshawa, Ontario and had five children:

Mary E. Strong Brown died November 2, 1999, aged 83 years in Lindsay, Ontario and Howard J. Brown died April 9, 1967, aged 65 years in Pontypool, Ontario and are interred at Pontypool Cemetery.

Mary E. Strong Brown
After a lenghy illness, Mary Ethel Eliza Brown passed away peacefully on November 2, 1999. She was in her 84th year. The eldest daughter of the late George Strong and Effie Adams she was born in Enniskillen, Ontario on October 28, 1916. She attended Enfield School. In later years the family moved to Cartwright Township where she met and married Howard Brown on May 16, 1936. They resided on a small farm on the Manvers-Cartwright boundary and later moved to the village of Pontypool in 1962. Mary was a member of the United Church. After the loss of her husband in 1967, Mary moved to Bowmanville. She found employment at the Marnwood Nursing Home where she worked until her retirement in 1981. In June 1993 she moved to Lindsay. During a short stay in Bowmanville Hospital of that same year, she suffered a stroke. She spent her remaining years at Frost Manor in Lindsay. Her interests centered around her family and home. She had a talent for knitting, sewing, numerous crafts and toys. A pair of knitting needles were always close at hand. Mary, a beloved Mother, will always be remembered for the beautiful sweaters she knitted and the toys she made with loving hands for her grandchildren at Christmas. Blessed with such a gift, a part of her will forever remain with her family. Mrs. Brown rested at the Northcutt and Elliott Funeral Home with service in the chapel November 5, 1999 conducted by Rev. John Sullivan. Interment was in Pontypool Cemetery. The pallbearers were six grandsons: Jim Brown, Kenny Ingram, Dean Curtis, Darrell Curtis, Dwayne Sterling and Lavern Hoy. The remaining grandchildren and great-grandchildren were flower bearers. Mary was predeceased by her husband, Howard Brown. Left to mourn her passing are her five children: William and his wife Shirley of Lefroy, Laura and her husband Bill Ingram of Trenton, Hazel of Lindsay, Margaret and her husband Paul Sterling of Hamilton and Evelyn of Lindsay, 13 grandchildren: Stephen, Jim, Kenny, Dale, Darrell, Dean, Denise, Carolann, Dwayne, Connie, Lavern, Lisa, Scott and nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters and a brother, Vera and Jean of Lindsay and Roy of Pontypool. She was predeceased by Jim, Bill and Dave. Lindsay Post, Nov. 4, 1999.
Howard J. Strong
September 5, 1901 ~ April 9, 1967
The death of Howard John Brown occured suddenly at his home in Pontypool on Sunday, April 9, 1967. He was in his 66th year. Son of the late James Brown and the late Elizabeth Greer, he was born in Manvers Township, Lot 1, Con. 5 and attended school at S.S.#3 Cartwright. On May 16, 1936 he married the former Mary Ethel Strong who survives. A resident of R.R.2 Pontypool for 61 years the deceased moved to the village of Pontypool four years ago.
He was employed by the Department of Highways and had 12 years of service. He farmed for 30 years in the Pontypool area and was also employed by General Motors for 5 years. Mr. Brown was a 50 year Loyal Orange Lodge member.
Surviving besides his wife Mary are a son and four daughters: William of Nashville, Ont., Laura (Mrs. Wm. Ingram) of Omeeme, Ont., Hazel (Mrs. Herb Curtis) of Pontypool, Ont., Margaret (Mrs. Paul Sterling) of Windsor, Ont., and Evelyn at home. Also surviving are a brother and two sisters: Lewis of Fenelon Falls, Margaret of Toronto and Gladys of Florida. Mr. Brown rested at the Northcutt and Smith Funeral Home, Bowmanville with service in Pontypool United Church on Tuesday, April 11, conducted by Rev. Wm. Piercy. Music during the ceremony was played by Mr. Leslie Fairhearst. Interment was in Pontypool Cemetery. L.O.L. services were held in the chapel of the Funeral Home on Monday evening, April 10. Among the many beautiful floral tokens evidence of the esteem in which the deaceased was held, was one from L.O.L. 82.
Pallbearers were Messrs. Howard McMullen, Lorne McKee, Donald McKay, Roy Strong, Clifford Curtis and Jack Brown. Lindsay Post, Apr. 10, 1967.
William M. Brown
November 18, 1936 ~ April 27, 2000
Passed away peacefully at the Royal Victoria Hospital, Barrie on Thursday, April 27, 2000. Bill Brown of Lefroy was in his 64th year. Beloved husband of Shirley. Loving father of Stephen and Jim and his wife Cheryl. Dear Poppa of Jacqueline, Christopher, Shawn and Wyatt. Bill is suvived by his sisters Laura Ingram, Hazel Curtis, Margaret Sterling and Evelyn Hoy. Laura Effie Ingram entered into rest at the Trenton Memorial Hospital on Thursday, January 7, 2010 in her 72nd year. Laura Effie Ingram (nee: Brown) of Trenton and formerly of Brighton, daughter of the late Howard and Mary Brown. Beloved wife of the late William H. Ingram. Loving mother of Kenneth Ingram and wife Darlene of Niagara Falls. Ever remembered her grandchildren Melissa and her husband Richard Malcolm, Darrell Ingram, and great grandchildren Dylan and MacKenzie Malcolm. Dear sister of Margaret Stirling of Hamilton and Hazel Curtis of Lindsay. Predeceased by sister Evelyn Hoy and brother William Brown. William “Bill” Ingram passed away peacefully at the Trenton Memorial Hospital with his loving wife by his side on Thursday, April 24, 2008, in his 73rd year. Beloved husband and lifelong companion of Laura for 50 wonderful years. Dear father of Kenny and his wife Darlene. Survived by his sister Lillian Kennedy. Proud grandpa of Lee Ingram (deceased), Melissa Malcolm and her husband Richard, and Darrell Ingram, and great-grandpa of Dylan, and Mackenzie. Darlene E. Lindsay Ingram

It is with profound sadness our family announces the unexpected passing of Darlene (nee Lindsay) Ingram on Tuesday, August 4, 2015 at the age of 53. Darlene will be sadly missed by her husband and best friend of 37 years, Ken. Children Melissa (Richard) Malcolm and Darrell Ingram will forever have wonderful memories of the amazing mom she was. Nana will live on in the hearts of her grandchildren Dylan, Mackenzie, Hailey and Andrew. Her four legged friend Dixie will miss her dearly. Darlene is predeceased by her son Lee Ingram (1979). The death of Herbert (Herb) Clifford Curtis, aged 44, occurred suddenly at R.R.2, Pontypool on Friday, February 18, 1983.
Born in Manvers Township, and educated in Pontypool Public School, he was the son of Clifford and Gwendolyn (Willis) Curtis. On January 18, 1964, he married Hazel Brown.
A lifetime resident of the Pontypool area he had been employed as a foreman for 17½ years with Bennett Paving and Materials, Oshawa. He was also a part-time farmer.
He was a member of Pontypool United Church and of the Pontypool L.O.L. 82.
Left to mourn his passing are his wife Hazel, three sons, Dale, Darrell and Dean, and a daughter Denise, his parent’s sisters Barbara (Mrs. H. McCarrell), Omemee, Beverley (Mrs. A. Bazinet), Pontypool, and Dianne (Mrs. K. Preston), Bethany.
The Reverend H. E. Schamerhorn officiated at the funeral services held at the Morris Funeral Chapel on Monday.
Pallbearers were Messrs. Laverne Curtis, Jim Curtis, Calvin McKee, Ray Finney, Roy Strong and Dave Preston.
Among the many floral tokens received in his memory were tributes from the Manvers Kinsmen Club, Grandview Public School, Plydesign Ltd., and the Pontypool Park Board.

Evelyn M. Brown Hoy
October 10, 1946 ~ November 13, 2008
On November 13, 2008, mom went with the Lord to reunite with her parents (Howard and Mary Brown) laughing and fighting the whole way after a three year battle with lung cancer. Predeceased by her brother Bill Brown. Forever loved mom of Lavern Hoy and wife Cathy, Lisa Hood and husband Richard and Scott Hoy. Sadly missed by her four most favourite people, grandchildren Kevin, Jacob and Trevor Hoy and Faith Hood. Loving sister of Laura, Hazel and Margaret. Cherished aunt of many nieces and nephews. A private family service to be held according to mom’s wishes.
