William Edward Strong  (1921 ~ 1984)

 

5.3.4.1.3. Third child of Effie V. Adams and David G. Strong, William EdwardBillStrong, was born March 14, 1921, in Enfield, Darlington Twp., Durham Co., Ontario. 

  He married Luella Margaret Maude Black, daughter of Charles Black and Evelyn Gladys Hurren, May 18, 1946, and had two children:

 

  • (5.3.4.1.3.1)  Edward George Charles  (1947 ~ 1966)

  • (5.3.4.1.3.2)  Melville Henry  (1950 ~ )

 

  William E. Strong died August 18, 1984, aged 63 years in Peterborough, Ontario and Luella M. Black Strong died March 3, 2000, aged 74 years, in Omemee, Ontario and are interred at Pontypool Cemetery.

William E. Strong

The death of William EdwardBillStrong, aged 64, occurred on Saturday, August 18, 1984, at Civic Hospital, Peterborough. He had suffered from heart illness from 1971 and passed away with cancer.

  Born in Enfield, Darlington Twp., he was the son of the late George Strong and Effie Adams, and educated at Lotus, in Cartwright Township. On May 18, 1946, he married Luella Black

  For 38 years he resided one mile east of Pontypool. He had farmed near Lindsay and during the war worked in Ajax in the munitions plant. He also threshed for his father and uncles and worked for Charlie Chapman for 25 years trucking logs and lumber. He retired in 1971. 

  He was a member of the United Church and of the Pontypool Orange Lodge.

  A wonderful family man, he was also always willing to give a helping hand to friends and neighbors.

  Left to mourn his passing are his wife Luella, son Melville and daughter-in-law.

  Funeral services were held at the Northcutt Elliott Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 21, 1984, with Reverend Douglas Mitchell, of Millbrook officiating. Music by Arline Ayre.

  Pallbearers were nephews Jeff Strong, Alan Knapp, Jim McKay, Peter Black, Kenneth and Mark Horner.

  Interment Pontypool Cemetery. Bowmanville Statesman, Sept. 12, 1984.

 

Luella M. Black Strong

November 2, 1925 ~ March 3, 2000

At her home in Omemee on Friday, March 3, 2000, Luella Strong, in her 75th year. Beloved wife of the late William Strong. Dear mother of Melville and his wife Joanne Strong of Mt. Pleasant and the late Edward Strong. Dear sister of Bert Black of Peterborough, Jean Horner (Mrs. Lorne) of Oshawa, Joan Lockyer, Laverne Thomas of Peterborough, Buelah McDonald of Lindsay and the late Ronnie Black, Melville Black and Earl Thomas. Visitation at Northcutt Elliott Funeral Home, 53 Division St. N., Bowmanville, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday. Funeral service in our chapel 11 a.m. Tuesday. Spring interment Pontypool Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Cancer Society or Heart and Stroke Foundation. Lindsay Post, Mar. 7, 2000.

 

Edward G. Strong

April 6, 1947 ~ February 19, 1966

Edward George Charles Strong, age 18, a lifetime resident of Manvers Township, lost his life on February 19, 1966 in a tragic accident. He was in a car that was stuck in the snow and he died from carbon monoxide poisoning.

  He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Strong, and a younger brother, Melville. He was born in Lindsay but his family moved to Manvers Township when he was very young.  He was educated in Pontypool and was employed by the Acme Pallett Manufacturing Company, of Pontypool.

  A popular young man Mr. Strong had many friends who were saddened by his loss. He rested at the Northcutt and Smith Funeral Home, Bowmanville. Among the many beautiful floral tributes were those from the L.O.L. No. 82, the L.O.L. No. 444, the L.O.B.A., Pontypool, and the United Church Women, Pontypool. There were also a large number of floral tokens from friends and neighbours.

  The Rev. William Piercy, Bethany, officiated at the service at the Northcutt and Smith Funeral Home on February 22nd. The pallbearers were Ronnie Richardson, Murray Brown, Denis Wallis, Byron Kellett, Vincent Davis and Billy Chapman. The flower bearers were Ralph Heyland, Bruce Charlton, Richard Strong and Charles Calvin. Interment was in Pontypool Cemetery. Bowmanville Statesman, Apr. 13, 1966.
