David Harvey Strong  (1926 ~ 1981)

 

5.3.4.1.5. Fifth child of Effie V. Adams and David G. Strong, David Harvey Strong, was born February 3, 1926, in Cartwright Twp., Durham Co., Ontario. 

  He married Margaret Joan Tompkins, daughter of Bramwell Victor Tompkins and Harriet Pearl Milner, August 11, 1947, in Lindsay, Ontario and had four children:

  • (5.3.4.1.5.2)  Ronald John Henry  (1951 ~ 1958)

  • (5.3.4.1.5.3)  Linda Harriet Effie  (1952 ~ )

  • (5.3.4.1.5.4)  Howard Donald George  (1963 ~ )

 

  David H. Strong died August 3, 1981, aged 55 years, in Toronto, Ontario and Margaret J. Tompkins Strong died October 10, 1978, aged 48 years in Peterborough, Ontario and are interred at Riverside Cemetery, Lindsay, Ontario.

At St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto on Monday, August 3, 1981. David Harvey Strong was in his 56th year. Beloved husband of the late Margaret Tompkins. Dear father of Richard of Toronto, Linda (Mrs. Walters) of Nova Scotia and Howard at home. Also Ronald predeceased. Also survived by five grandchildren. Dear brother of William, Roy, and James, all of Pontypool, Vera (Mrs. McKay) of Lindsay, Jean (Mrs. Knapp) of Dunsford, and Mary (Mrs. Brown) of Bowmanville. Dear son-in-law of Pearl Tompkins of Lindsay. Rested at the Mackey Funeral Home, Peel St., Lindsay, where a funeral service was held in the Chapel, on Thursday, August 6 at 2 p.m. Interment Riverside Cemetery, Lindsay. Lindsay Post, Aug. 4, 1981.

 

Margaret J. Tompkins Strong

February 24, 1930 ~ October 10, 1978

At the Civic Hospital in Peterborough on Tuesday, October 10, 1978. Margaret Joan Tompkins, in her 49th year. Beloved wife of David Strong. Dear mother of Richard of Toronto, Linda (Mrs. Walters) of Nova Scotia and Howard of home. Also survived by four grandchildren. Resting at the Mackey Funeral Home, Lindsay. Funeral service in the chapel on Friday, October 13 at 3:30 p.m. Interment at Riverside Cemetery. Lindsay Post, Oct. 11, 1978.

 

Ronald J. Strong

August 6, 1951 ~ July 11, 1958

A six-year-old Pontypool child was instantly killed on Pontypool’s main street late Friday afternoon, July 11, 1958.

  Police say that Ronald Strong was crossing the road from west to east on his tri-cycle when he was hit by a northbound car driven by Harry Jakeman, 18, R.R.2, Pontypool.

  According to eyewitnesses the youngster pulled out from between two parked cars into the path of the oncoming car. He was thrown against the side of a parked car.

 Dr. Charles Austin of Bowmanville pronounced the child dead at the scene. Bowmanville O.P.P. investigated.

  Ronald was the son of Mr. and Mrs. David Strong of Pontypool, who have two other children, Richard and Linda.

  The funeral was held on Monday with service at Pontypool United Church. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery. Bowmanville Statesman, July 24, 1958.
