LABOR CANDIDATE DIES IN HOSPITAL

Samuel J. Adams, Business Man

Here For Twenty Years, Passes

Samuel J. Adams, prominent Guelph business man for several years and a man who was to have figured in the coming federal election, passed away this morning, September 7, 1935 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, after an illness that lasted over a lengthy period. Mr. Adams had been in very poor health for some time and had been failing for the past two years, so that his passing was not totally unexpected by his friends.

Some time ago, Mr. Adams announced that he would run in the coming election campaign as an Independent Labor candidate. His death, coming as it does so close to the election, will considerably affect the plans of that party in Guelph.

Born near Oshawa, Ontario, the late Mr. Adams had been a resident of Guelph for the past twenty years, most of which he spent in the motor car and garage business. For some years pervious to that, he was an employee of the Canadian National Railways. In religion, he was a member of the congregation of Paisley Memorial United Church. He was a member of the Masonic order.

Surviving are his wife and one daughter, Patricia, also brothers and sisters in outside points.

The funeral will take place on Monday afternoon, at three o’clock from the funeral home of H. Tovell, Quebec Street, to Woodlawn Cemetery. Guelph Mercury, Sept. 7, 1935.
