James Herbert Adams  (1886 ~ 1950)

 

5.3.6. Sixth child of Thomas Adams and Maria Bullied, James Herbert Adams, was born August 31, 1886, in New Park, Clarke Twp., Durham Co., Ontario. 

  He married Gertrude Maude Wotten, daughter of William Morton Wotten and Charlotte Powell, October 10, 1913, in Blackstock, Cartwright Twp., Durham Co., Ontario and had eight children:

 

 

  James H. Adams died March 19, 1950, aged 63 years in Enniskillen, Darlington Twp., Ontario and Gertrude M. Wotten Adams died March 10, 1993, aged 97 years in Bowmanville, Ontario and are interred at Hampton Union Cemetery.

James H. Adams

August 31, 1886 ~ March 19, 1950

The death of James Herbert Adams, beloved husband of the former Gertrude Wotten, occurred on March 19, 1950 at his home at Enniskillen, in his 65th year. Mr. Adams had been in very poor health for a number of years. He farmed for a great many years until failing health forced him to give up. As a young man he was active in football circles in the Enniskillen district. He was a past member of the L.O.L., Enniskillen.

  The funeral was held from the Northcutt and Smith funeral parlors on March 22, with Rev. R. Seymour, Enniskillen United Church, conducting the services, assisted by Mr. Johnson of Bowmanville.

  The many floral tributes and large attendance displayed how well Mr. Adams was known. Left to mourn his passing are his wife, two sons, Henry of Hampton, Lawrence of Bowmanville and five daughters, Mrs. David Gray (Marjorie) of Newcastle, Mrs. Verdon Lethangue (Dorothy) of Pontypool, Mrs. Jim Fallis (Jean) of Cadmus, Mrs. Milford McDonald (Helen) of Bowmanville and Ruth, at home.

  Also surviving are three sisters, Mrs. E. Patterson, Bowmanville, Mrs. Len Bullied, Toronto and Mrs. R. Winch, of Sask., and three brothers, Ernest and Wes of Burketon, Zack of Bowmanville and Oscar of Roseneath. Predeceased some time ago were three brothers, Al, Sam and Fred, and one sister, Martha.

  Pallbearers were his two sons and four brothers. Interment was in the family plot at Hampton Cemetery. Bowmanville Statesman, Apr. 13, 1950.

 

Gertrude M. Wotten Adams

March 8, 1896 ~ March 10, 1993

Born and educated in Cartwright Township, Gertrude Maude Adams (Wotten), aged 97 on March 8, 1896, died at Strathaven Lifecare Centre, Bowmanville on Wednesday, March 10, 1993.

  Married October 1913, to James Herbert Adams, who predeceased her in March 1950, she had been a resident at Strathaven for six years. She had previously resided in Bowmanville.

  A member of Liberty Pentecostal Church, Bowmanville, she was the youngest of 11 children and the last of that generation. Her husband was one of 13 children.

  Surviving are her children, Henry Adams, Mrs. Marjorie Gray, Mrs. Dorothy Lethangue, Lawrence Adams, Mrs. Jean Fallis, Mrs. M. McDonald (Helen), Mrs. D. Cowle (Ruth), 22 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

  Funeral services were held at Bowmanville Liberty Penecostal Church, on Saturday, with the Rev. R. Hilsden and the Rev. D. Rogers officiating.

  The organist was Helen McDonald and the pianist Mrs. D. Rogers.

  Donations were made in her honor to the Heart and Stroke Fund, the Cancer Society, the Gideons, Sick Children’s Hospital, Memorial Hospital, Bowmanville, and Liberty Pentecostal Church.

  A floral tribute was received from Peter Kowal Real Estate.
