Irma Navivien Winch  (1912 ~ 2010)

 

5.3.8.2. Second child of E. Maude Adams and Richard W. Winch, Irma Navivien Winch, was born April 30, 1912, in Curlew Pct., Perry Co., Washington, U.S.

  She married Joseph Melvin Meland, son of Martin Meland and Anna Mariah Simpson, March 18, 1930, in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan and had three children:

  • (5.3.8.2.2)  Ruby Marie  (1931 ~ 2017)

  • (5.3.8.2.3)  Jean Delories  (1933 ~ 2008)

 

  Irma N. Winch Meland died January 12, 2010, aged 97 years and Joseph M. Meland died December 18, 1980, aged 89 years in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan and are interred at Resthaven Memorial Gardens.

Irma N. Winch Meland

Irma Meland of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan passed away on Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at the age of 97 years. A Family Graveside Service will be held at a later date. Irma was predeceased by her husband Joseph, her son Lavern, daughter Jean, two brothers Clifford and Elmer Winch, her sister Evelyn Houseman and her grandson Kelly. She is survived by her daughter Ruby (Bob) Thomas; her brother Ernest Dick” (Brenda) Winch; 6 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives. Joseph M. Meland

March 14, 1891 ~ December 18, 1980

Mr. Joseph Melvin Meland of 1064 - 6th Avenue N.W., Moose Jaw, passed away in a local hospital on Thursday, December 18, 1980, at the age of 89 years. Born in Crookston, Minnesota in 1891, he moved to Canada in 1905, settling in the Brownlee-Keeler districts, moving to Brownlee in 1918 where he worked as a carpenter. He moved to Moose Jaw in 1950, continuing his carpentry work for the Bird Contruction Company and the Harley Cox Company, retiring in 1967, Mr. Meland married Irma Winch in 1930. Predeceased by his parents, a step-father, John Lester, one sister, Katie, one brother, Theodore, and two grandsons, Dale and Kelly, he is survived by his wife, Irma, son, Levern, Moose Jaw; Ruby Thomas, North Vancouver; two step-sisters, Hazel Walker, Moose Jaw; Alice Stokes, of Eau Claire, Wisconsin; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. The funeral service will be held at the W. J. Jones and Son Chapel on Saturday, December 20, 1980, at 1:30 p.m. Rev. Dr. A. W. Martin will officiate and interment will be made at a later date at the Resthaven Memorial Gardens. Flowers are gratefully declined. Funeral service parking on the east side of the chapel. Memorials in memory of Mr. Meland for the Moose Jaw hospitals Research and Development Fund would be appreciated, and may be forwarded directly to the foundation office at Providence Hospital, 201 Lillooet Street East, S6H 4S7. Levern T. Melland

September 20, 1930 ~ November 30, 1989

Mr. Levern Theodore Melland of 1157 5th Ave. N.E., Moose Jaw, passed away suddenly on Thursday, November 30, 1989. Born in September 1930 at Brownlee, Saskatch-ewan, he grew up and took his schooling there. He moved to Moose Jaw in 1950. Levern married Kathleen Fittes in Moose Jaw in 1954. Levern was active in sports. He belonged to the Moose Jaw Hockey Society, St. Andrew’s United Church and the A.O.T.S. He was employed with Skingles, Motorways and the Sask. Technical Institute, retiring in 1986. Predeceased by his father, Joe Melland; and two sons, Kelly and Dale. He leaves to mourn his loss his loving wife, Kathleen, Moose Jaw; two children: Shelley (John) Ogle, Moose Jaw; Clifford (Lisa) Melland, Canmore, Alta.; five grandchildren; his mother Irma Melland, Moose Jaw; two sisters: Ruby (Bob) Thomas, Vancouver; Jean Melland, Moose Jaw; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will beheld at St. Andrew’s United Church, Monday, December 4, 1989 at 3:30 p.m. Rev. Bud Harper will officiate. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation Sunday 1:30-4 p.m. at W. J. Jones and Son Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the A.O.T.S. Memorial Fund, c/o 60 Athabasca St. E., Moose Jaw, would be appreciated. Kathleen M. Fittes Melland

September 16, 1930 ~ July 13, 2022

 

Dale R. Melland

October 1, 1955 ~ October 5, 1955

Dale Ryan Melland, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Lavern Melland, 201 Ominica St. W., passed away in local hospital Wednesday, October 5, 1955.

  Besides his parents he is survived by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Melland, Moose Jaw, and Mr. and Mrs. Dave Fittes of Porcupine Plains, and his great grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Winch, of Eyebrow. Moose Jaw Times-Herald, Oct. 6, 1955.

 

Kelly L. Melland

November 14, 1956 ~ May 9, 1974

Funeral services for Kelly Lynn Meland, 17, of 1157 5th Ave. N.E., Moose Jaw, was held at St. Andrew’s United Church, Saturday.

  Rev. John Sullivan officiated and interment will follow later at the Resthaven Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

  Kelly died as a result of a car accident south of Moose Jaw, May 9, 1974.

 Pallbearers were Grant Kitts, Jim Baldwin, Ken Allen, Gord Williams, Barry Baldwin and Garry Stanhope.

  Arrangements were in care of the W. J. Jones and Son Funeral Home. Moose Jaw Times-Herald, May 13, 1974.

Ruby M. Melland Thomas

November 29, 1931 ~ December 3, 2017

Ruby Marie Thomas passed away peacefully on December 3, 2017 at the age of 86 years. Predeceased by her loving husband, Bob; Ruby will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Candace (Andrew); son Michael (Lynda); grandchildren, Nicholas, Derek, Ethan, Mathew, Justine; and sister-in-law Lorraine. Our mother and grandmother will be forever in our hearts. We know she is at peace and reunited with "her" Bob, her husband of 67 years. Mom and Dad, rest in peace, we will love you always. March 16, 1933 ~ April 4, 2008

Jean Delores Melland, aged 75 years of Moose Jaw, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 4, 2008. The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, April 11th, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. in the Moose Jaw Funeral Home. Mr. James Sikorski will be the speaker. A Visitation for family and friends will be held prior to the funeral service on Friday, from 9 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. at the funeral home. Jean was predeceased by her father Joseph Melland, brother Lavern Melland and nephew Kelly Melland. She will be lovingly remembered by her mother Irma; sister Ruby (Robert) Thomas; sons Brad (Wanda Baker) Morgan and Scott Morgan; grandchildren Alicia Meens, Bo and Cole Morgan; and many nieces and nephews.
