Mary Elizabeth Adams (1891 ~ 1963)

5.3.9. Ninth child of Thomas Adams and Maria Bullied, Mary Elizabeth Adams, was born September 23, 1891, in New Park, Clarke Twp., Durham Co., Ontario.

She married George Alexander Patterson, son of John Patterson and Dora James, January 14, 1909 and raised her sister Martha’s youngest child after her death:

M. Elizabeth Adams Patterson died October 5, 1963, aged 72 years in Bowmanville, Ontario and George A. Patterson died June 21, 1943, aged 66 years in New Park, Clarke Twp., Ontario and are interred at Hampton Union Cemetery.

M. Elizabeth Adams Patterson

The death of Mrs. George A. Patterson occurred suddenly at Memorial Hospital, Bowmanville, on Saturday, October 5, 1963. She was in her 73rd year.

Daughter of the late Thomas and Maria Adams, the former Elizabeth Mary Adams was born in Clarke Township. She attended New Park School. On January 7, 1907, she married George A. Patterson who predeceased her.

Mrs. Patterson had resided in Bowmanville for 20 years, and at the time of her death her residence was on Lamb’s Lane. She had lived in Leskard before coming to Bowmanville. For many years the deceased was a practical nurse. She was a member of Bowmanville Pentecostal Church.

Mrs. Patterson is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Albert Pearce (Myrtle) of Newcastle and four grandchildren.

Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Len Bullied (Eva) of Stroud and Mrs. Richard Winch (Maude) of Moose Jaw, Sask., and three brothers, Zack and Ernest Adams of Bowmanville, and Oscar Adams of Roseneath.

The funeral service was held on Tuesday, October 8, from the Morris Funeral Chapel, Bowmanville, and was conducted by Rev. S. A. Grant of the Pentecostal Church, assisted by Rev. E. E. Woodland of the Newcastle United Church. Interment was in Hampton Cemetery.

Many lovely floral tributes were evidence of the esteem in which the deceased was held.

Pallbearers were Messrs. Larry Pearce, Richard Pearce, Bruce Adams, Albert Adams, Charlie Adams and John Fowler. Bowmanville Statesman, Oct. 16, 1963.

In Clarke on Monday, June 21, 1943, George Alexander Patterson, beloved husband of Mary Elizabeth Adams, aged 67 years. Funeral will take place from F. F. Morris Co. Chapel on Thursday, June 24 at 3:00 o’clock. Service at 2:30. Interment Hampton Cemetery. Orono Weekly Times, June 24, 1943.
