Flora Saretta Ilene Smith  (1927 ~ 2011)

 

5.7.10.4. Fourth child of Ida I. Ferguson and John D. Smith, Flora Saretta Ilene Smith, was born December 8, 1927, in Arthur Twp., Wellington Co., Ontario. 

  She married Wray Cecil Moore, son of William John Moore and Ida Arnott, September 5, 1945, Conn, W. Luther Twp., Wellington Co., Ontario and had five children:

  F. S. Ilene Smith Moore died April 32011, aged 83 in Mount Forest, Ontario and Wray C. Moore died October 25, 2006, aged 83 years in Guelph, Ontario.

Knox Presbyterian Church, Conn, was tastefully decorated with an evergreen arch, pink and white gladioli and pink and white streamers on Wednesday, September 5, 1945, for the wedding at 3 o’clock of Flora Saretta Ilene Smith, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John D. Smith and Wray Cecil Moore, only son of Mr. and Mrs. William J. Moore, all of Arthur Township, the Rev. Gordon Harris officiating. The wedding march was and bridal chorus were played by Mrs. Vernon Smith, sister-in-law of the bride, who also accompanied Miss Betty Ford, of Fergus, the bride’s cousin, while singing "I Love You Truly", during the signing of the register.

  The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a floor-length gown of ivory sheer, trimmed with insets of lace in the bodice. A halo headdress held her finger-tip veil in place, and she carried an arm bouquet of larkspur, gladioli and fern. She was attended by Miss Dorothy Bridge, of Palmerston, cousin of the groom, who wore a floor-length gown of heaven blue sheer over taffeta. A halo headdress held her matching shoulder veil in palce, and carried an arm bouquet of artemesia, gladioli and fern. The flower girl, little Faye Davis, of Hamilton, cousin of the groom, wore a long dress of pink sheer trimmed with pale blue ribbon, and matching pekoe bonnet. She carried a basket of pink and white sweetpeas and fern, with long streamers of pink and blue ribbon. Mr. Laverne Smith of Kenilworth, cousin of the bride, was best man. Vernon Smith of Brampton, the bride’s eldest brother, and Donald Moore of Conn, cousin of the groom were ushers.

  The bride’s mother wore a navy blue dress and hat, with a corsage of gladioli tips and fern. The groom’s mother was gowned in medium blue with black accessories and corsage of gladioli tips and fern. About twenty-five guests were present at the wedding supper, which was served at the bride’s home by Miss Helen Ford of Fergus, cousin of the bride, and Miss Shirley Moore of Palmerston, cousin of the groom.

  Later in the evening a reception was held in the Woman’s Institute Hall, Conn, over three hundred guests being present. The hall was decorated with pink and white streamers, gladioli and fern. Music was supplied by William Smith’s orchestra, an uncle of the bride.

  For the wedding trip to Collingwood, Wasaga Beach and Midland, the bride wore a moss green dress trimmed with gold, beige coat and dark brown accessories.

  Guests were present from Palmerston, Hamilton, Fergus, Thamesford, Brampton, Kenilworth, Mount Forest and Conn. Mount Forest Confederate, Sept. 20, 1945.

F. S. Ilene Smith Moore

Passed away peacefully at Saugeen Valley Nursing Centre in Mount Forest on Sunday, April 3, 2011 in her 84th year. Beloved wife of the late Wray Moore. Loving mother of Bonnie Gerhardt (Larry), the late Bettie Moore, John Moore (Trina), Judie Moore and Jim Moore (Denise McDonald). Proud grandmother of Dana, Leah and Aaron Gerhardt, Karly, Taylor, Whitney, and Alana Moore, Jenneen, Christopher, Marcus and the late Lucas Shortreed, Jack and Louis Moore and great grandmother of Evan Gerhardt. Predeceased by her brother and sister-in-law, the late Vernon and the late Charlotte Smith and fondly remembered by brothers Cecil (June) Smith, and Sherman (Joyce) Smith. Resting at the Thomson Funeral Home, Fergus. Visitation will be Wednesday, April 6 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 7 in the chapel at 11 a.m. Interment at Belsyde Cemetery, Fergus. Wray C. Moore

February 6, 1923 ~ October 25, 2006

Wray Cecil Moore passed away at Guelph General Hospital on Wednesday, October 25, 2006, in his 84th year. Beloved husband of Ilene (née Smith). Dear father of Bonnie Gerhardt (Larry) of Waterloo, Bettie of Cambridge, John Moore (Trina) of Mississauga, Judie Gale (Glenn) of Fergus, and Jim Moore (Deb Johnstone) of Cambridge. He will be missed by 13 grandchildren and a great grandson. Wray farmed in the Conn area until he was in his late forties and then worked with the University of Guelph in their beef operations. He was a member of the Fergus Curling Club and Melville United Church. Friends were received at the Thomson & Collins Funeral Home, 160 St. David St. N., Fergus, on Friday. A funeral service was held in the chapel on Saturday, October 28th, 2006, at 11 a.m., with Rev. Stephen Huntley officiating. Following the committal service at Belsyde Cemetery, friends continued to visit with the family at a reception held at the Fergus Curling Club. Bonnie G. Moore Gerhardt

November 18, 1947 ~ November 11, 2013

Bonnie Gerhardt (nee Moore) passed away in her sleep November 11, 2013 with grace, dignity, and courage after a short battle with lung cancer. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by her husband – Larry, her children – Dana, Leah, and Aaron, her grandson – Evan, her children’s partners – Kim and Nikki, her siblings – John, Judie, Jim, her in-laws – David Gerhardt, Trina, Tim, Denise, her nieces and nephews, and her numerous friends. Following Bonnie’s wishes, her immediate family will be holding a small, quiet, private funeral. (by invitation only) Bonnie’s husband and children will be holding an Open House - “Celebration of Life” on Saturday November 16 at the family residence between 1:30 and 4:00. We invite people to drop-in to remember and celebrate Bonnie. Those who would like are asked to share a story, a memory, kind words, or even a highland dance. We also encourage you to bring photos of fun times spent with Bonnie. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Bonnie’s name can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Hospice Wellington in Guelph. Bettie A. Moore

July 14, 1949 ~ February 19, 2010

Passed away peacefully at Groves Memorial Community Hospital on February 19, 2010 at the age of 60. Loving daughter of Ilene Moore and the late Wray Moore. Dear sister of Bonnie Gerhardt (Larry), John Moore (Trina), Judie Moore and Jim Moore (Denise McDonald). Fondly remembered by nieces, nephews and extended family. Lucas F. Shortreed

January 23, 1990 ~ October 11, 2008

Lucas Frederick Shortreed passed away, during the early morning hours of October 11, 2008, as the result of a tragic accident, just outside of Fergus. Lucas was 18 years old. Family and friends will be received at the Graham A. Giddy Funeral Home, 280 St. David St. S. in Fergus, on October 14, 2008 and October 15, 2008 between the hours of 3:00 and 8:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be conducted at the Elora Community Centre, located at the corner of David Street and Wellington Road 7 in Elora, on Thursday, October 16, 2008 at 2 p.m. Interment at Belsyde Cemetery in Fergus. William J. Moore

May 21, 1889 ~ November 18, 1970

William J. Moore, Conn, passed away at the Baker Nursing home on Wednesday, November 18, 1970, after a lengthy illness.  He was in his 83rd year.

  Born and raised in the Conn area he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Moore and had farmed in Arthur Township before retiring to Conn in 1947. He was a member of Westcott United Church, Conn.

  His wife, the former Ida Arnott, to whom he was married in June, 1919, survives. Also surviving are one son, Wray, Arthur Township; two brothers, Norman, Arthur Township; and Ernest, Palmerston; one sister, Lucinda, Mrs. Reuben Treleaven, Mount Forest; and five grandchildren. He was predeceased by an infant son, Lloyd; one brother, Charles, and three sisters, Aphelia, Lilly, Mrs. Scott Orr, Mount Forest; and Elizabeth, Mrs. George Bridge, Palmerston.

  The funeral was held from Hendrick Funeral Chapel, Mount Forest, with Rev. T. J. Rees officiating. Interment was in Mount Forest Cemetery.

  The pallbearers were Nelson Moore, Donald Moore, Orwell Duncan, Howard Donald, Elmer McDougall, and Lloyd Hunter.

  The flowers were carried by Larry and Bonnie Gerhardt and John and Judy Moore. Mount Forest Confederate, Dec. 3, 1970.

 

Ida Arnott Moore

June 1, 1892 ~ August 27, 1973

Mrs. William Moore, the former Ida Arnott, passed away on August 27, 1973, at Wellington Terrace, Elora.

  Mrs. Moore, born to Henry and Mary Arnott, West Luther, married Mr. Moore on June 9, 1919. Her husband predeceased her on November 18, 1970. She is survived by one son, Wray of Fergus. She is also predeceased by Lloyd, a baby son.

  Mrs. Moore leaves five grandchildren. She was educated in Egerton and attended the Westcott United Church in Conn.

  The funeral was at Hendrick's Funeral Home on August 29 at 2:30, officiated by Rev. Stewart Smith.

  Pallbearers were Harry Arnott, Cecil Arnott, Nelson Moore, Donald Moore, Lloyd Hunter, Leeson Graham.

  The flower bearers were grandchildren of the deceased: Bonnie and Larry Gerhardt, John, Judi and Jimmie Moore. Interment Mount Forest Cemetery. Mount Forest Confederate, Sept. 20, 1973.

 

Stephen H. Moore

October 9, 1855 ~ September 3, 1950

There passed away in Palmerston on September 3, 1950, in his 95th year, at the home of his son, Ernest L. Moore, one of the oldest residents of this district in the person of Stephen H. Moore, a retired farmer of Arthur Township and the Conn and Mount Forest district. He had enjoyed good health until about three weeks before his death but was only confined to bed for a week.

  Although interested in public questions he never accepted office.  He was known as an ardent Liberal in politics. He was a member of the United Church.

  Mr. Moore was a son of Gideon Moore and Wilmot Short, who came from England in a sailing vessel in 1854, and was the youngest and only member of the family of seven to be born in Canada. Three sisters died in England and three brothers, John, Gideon and William, passed away in early manhood in Canada.

  Born in Darlington in 1855, Mr. Moore married in 1877 Agnes E. Prescott, who passed away in June, 1932. In 1879 they moved to the Conn-Mount Forest district, where they resided for about 36 years. About 33 years ago they moved to Palmerston and there the deceased made his home except for intervals which he spent with members of his family.

  Left to mourn his loss are four sons and three daughters: Charles G., Lillie, Mrs. W. S. Orr, Lucinda, Mrs. R. A. Treleaven, Mt. Forest; Norman and William J., of Conn; Ernest L. and Elizabeth, Mrs. Geo. Bridge of Palmerston. A daughter, Ophelia, died in 1916. Surviving also are 18 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

  Funeral service was held at Palmerston on Wednesday the Rev. Roy Rickard officiat-ing. The pallbearers were: Nelson Moore, Donald, Wray and Lorne Moore, Norman Bridge and Norman Treleaven. The bearers of many beautiful floral tributes were: Earl and Milton Bridge, Ross Moore, Herb. Treleaven, Leverne Small, Gordon Wilson, Rodger Brown. Interment took place in the Mount Forest Cemetery.

   Friends from a distance who were in attendance came from Oshawa, Enniskillen, Enfield, Orangeville, Stratford, Sebringville, Hamilton, Niagara Falls, Embro, Toronto, Richmond Hill. Mount Forest Confederate, Sept. 14, 1950.

 

Agnes E. Prescott Moore

March 8, 1855 ~ June 17, 1932

The death took place on Tuesday last, [June 17, 1932] at the home of her daughter Mrs. Treleaven, Palmerston, of one of the old and respected residents of this vicinity, Mrs. Stephen H. Moore, in her 78th year. She had not been in good health for a number of years past.

  Mrs. Moore, whos maiden name was Agnes Elizabeth Prescott, was a daughter of Charles and Elizabeth Prescott and was born in East Whitby Township. In December, 1877 she married Stephen H. Moore. They came to Proton Township in 1879, and in 1891 they moved to Arthur Township, Egremont Townline. In 1917 they moved to Palmerston, which has been their home since. They had four sons and four daughters. One daughter, the youngest of the family, died in 1916. Those who, with her husband, survive, are: Charles G., Mount Forest; Lillie, Mrs. Scott Orr, Mount Forest; Lucinda, Mrs. R. A. Treleaven, Palmerston; Norman and William J., Arthur Twp.; Ernest, Minto, and Lizzie, Mrs. George Bridge, Palmerston. Of six brothers and three sisters, one brother is still living.  There are 18 grandchildren.  She was a member of the Methodist Church.

  The funeral took place on Sunday afternoon from the home of her daughter, Mrs. Treleaven, to the Mount Forest Cemetery.  There were many relatives and old friends and acquaintances in attendance. The services were conducted by the Rev. Mr. Ballantyne of the Palmerston United Church, who was assisted at the graveside by Rev. Elwood Lawson, of Westminster Church here. The pall-bearers were four sons and two grandsons, Norman Treleaven and Nelson Moore. Among friends from a distance were: Mr. and Mrs. Alf. Prescott and Mr. E. Prescott, Enniskillen; Mrs. W. Hemphill and Mr. Joe Treleaven, Toronto; Mr. and Mrs. Herb. Treleaven, Owen Sound; Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Beckner, Stratford. Mount Forest Confederate, June 23, 1932.
