Frances Marlene Hunter (1936 ~ )
5.7.2.1.3. Third child of Roy C. Hunter and Elizabeth Feairs, Lorna Elizabeth Hunter, was born October 5, 1936, in Mount Forest, W. Luther Twp., Wellington Co., Ontario.
She married Henry Lloyd Hilliard, son of Henry Louis Hilliard and Vera Elsie Ssandford, November 27, 1955, in Monticello, E. Luther Twp., Wellington Co., Ontario and had four children:

F. Marlene Hunter Hilliard currently resides in Grand Valley, Ontario and H. Lloyd Hilliard died December 5, 1997, aged 65 years in Fergus, Ontario and is interred at Nashville Cemetery.

Hunter—Hilliard
Monticello United Church was the scene of a pretty wedding Saturday, November 27, 1955, when the Rev. W. Geo. Leck, officiated at the marriage of Frances Marlene, second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roy C. Hunter, of East Luther, and Henry Lloyd, only son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hilliard and the late Mrs. Hilliard of Woodbridge.
Ferns and baskets of ‘mums decorated the church for the double-ring ceremony. The wedding music was played by Miss Ann Dumbleton, of Woodbridge and Miss Margaret Hilliard, sister of the groom, sang, “The Lord’s Prayer” before the ceremony and “Because” during the signing of the register.
The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore an ankle-length dress of white nylon tulle over slipper satin with Chantilly lace bodice descending into a peplum. The sweetheart neckline was embroidered with seed pearls and rhinestones. Her headdress was a crown of beads and pearls from which fell an illusion finger-tip embroidered veil. She carried a colonial nosegay of pink sweetheart roses and white baby ‘mums with white satin streamers.
The bride’s only sister, Mrs. George McPherson, was matron of honor. She wore a ballerina length gown of mauve tulle over silk with brocaded bodice and jacket. Her headdress was of mauve forget-me-nots and orange blossoms. She carried a colonial nosegay of mauve ‘mums centred with yellow roses and mauve satin streamers.
The groomsman was Mr. Robert Banks. The ushers were George and Lloyd Hunter, brothers of the bride.
Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the home of the bride’s parents. The bride’s mother received in a moss green nylon taffeta dress with brown and white accessories. Her corsage was bronze ‘mums and yellow carnations. The groom’s grandmother, Mrs. Sandford, received in blue faille with blue accessories. Her corsage was red roses and white carnations.
The bride’s table was centred with a three-tiered wedding cake and pink and white candles.
For travelling to Eastern Ontario and the New York State, the bride wore a black with pink fleck suit, with pink and black accessories.
On their return, the young couple will reside in Woodbridge.
Prior to her marriage, Marlene was presented with a miscellaneous shower, held at the home of her girlfriend, Miss Joyce Pollard, of Streetsville.
The bowling team of Streetsville of which she was a member, presented her with two cups and saucers.
On Thursday night, November 24th, the C.G.I.T. held a shower for the bride-to-be at the home of Mrs. Howard Hillis, of Monticello. Grand Valley Star & Vidette, Dec. 14, 1955.

At Groves Memorial Hospital, Fergus, on Friday, December 5, 1997, Lloyd Hilliard, Bolton, in his 66th year, beloved husband of Marlene Hunter. Dear father and father-in-law of Marty and Maggie, Mississauga; Cam and Judy, Bolton; Darcy and Chris Franke, Bolton; Nancy and Grant Moffatt, Bolton. Loving Poppa of Megan, Lindsay, Jonathon, Tannis, Emily, Amanda and Holly. Predeceased by his parents Henry and Vera Hilliard, sister Margaret Belyea and brother Kenneth. Dear step-son of Helen and Nelson Lund. Dear step-brother of Margaret (Mrs. Roy Gardhouse) and Mrs. Doris McDowell. The family will receive their friends at the Egan Funeral Home, 203 Queen Street S. (Hwy. 50), Bolton (905-857-2213) Sunday evening 7-9, Monday afternoon 2-4 and evening 7-9 o’clock. Funeral service will be held in the chapel on Tuesday, December 9 at 1 o’clock. Henry L. Hilliard
September 18, 1895 ~ November 29, 1960
A well-known local resident, Henry Louis Hilliard, 65, died suddenly last Tuesday, November 29, 1960, in Peel Memorial Hospital, Brampton. Mr. Hilliard was enjoying comparatively good health up until his sudden death.
He was born September 18, 1895, on the 8th Concession of Vaughan Township. The eldest son of the late Samuel and Margaret Hilliard, he attended Kleinburg school and later farmed with his parents until he entered the service in 1916. Returning from the war, he went to work for J. D. Elliott of Bolton as a garage mechanic. He later started a butcher shop in Kleinburg. After five years he moved his business to Pine Street in Woodbridge. He worked the Woodbridge store for 23 years.
In 1954 he sold his Pine Street store and erected an I.G.A. on Highway 7. After one year, owing to ill health, he was forced to give up the business. He rented it to William Goodfellow of Brampton. Later he worked for a Weston real estate company as a salesman. He was an agent for the firm when he died.
Mr. Hilliard served on the Woodbridge council, was a member of the board of stewards of Kleinburg United Church and also a member of the church’s Fifty-Fifty club and bowling league. He was also a member of the Canadian Legion.
On May 2, 1931, he married Vera Elsie Sanford and later married Helen Sheardown Caldwell in 1958 after the death of his first wife.
He is survived by Lloyd of Bolton, Margaret (Mrs. Robert Belyea), Downsview; two step-daughters, Margaret (Mrs. Roy Gardhouse), Schomberg, and Doris (Mrs. Lorne McDowell), Bolton, and a sister, Gertrude (Mrs. Victor Orr), Maple.
A large crowd attended the funeral service at Woodbridge United Church. Rev. William Morris was assisted by the former minister, Rev. J. A. T. Hodgeson. Interment was in the family plot at Nashville Cemetery.
Pallbearers were James Spencer, Charles Smith, Alvin Wood, Fred Usher, Gordon Longhouse and William Goodfellow. Flower bearers were Mart Kenny, George Bagg, Howard Pridham, Ray Moltly, Roy Barker and Roy Livingston. Woodbridge News, Dec. 8, 1960.
Vera E. Sandford Hilliard
January 13, 1909 ~ October 28, 1953
A widely respected citizen and well known throughout Woodbridge and the surrounding district, Mrs. Henry Hilliard of Woodbridge passed away in the Peel Memorial Hospital, Brampton, on Wednesday, October 28, 1953, in her 45th year. She had been in ill health for many months, and her passing was keenly felt by all who knew her.
The former Vera Elsie Sandford, Mrs. Hilliard was born in Toronto and when quite young moved to Nashville where her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Sandford, still reside. She attended Coleraine school and before her marriage worked for a few years in the Nashville General Store. Previous to buying their present store in Woodbridge seventeen years ago Mr. and Mrs. Hilliard resided for a time in Kleinburg, where they also operated a store. Mrs. Hilliard was a member of the Evening Auxiliary and the 50-50 Club of the Woodbridge United Church and the Burwick Women’s Institute.
Left to mourn her loss are her husband, Henry, her daughter Margaret, and son Lloyd, her parents Mr. and Mrs. Charles Sandford, and three sisters, Eva, Blanche and Mary and a brother Ted. She is predeceased by a son, Kenneth.
The late Mrs. Hilliard rested at the W. R. Scott Funeral Home, Woodbridge, until noon Friday, October 30. The casket then remained open in the Woodbridge United Church from 1:30 until the hour of the service. The funeral service was conducted at 2:30 o’clock in the church by the Rev. J. A. H. Hodgson. Interment was in Nashville Cemetery.
The flower bearers were members of the 50-50 Club, Roy Barker, Harvey Usher, Alvin Wood, Glen Crane and Oscar Kellam and a neighbour, Jack Cornell. Samuel Hilliard
August 8, 1865 ~ July 23, 1935
Samuel Hilliard, who died on Tuesday, July 23, 1935, was buried in Nashville Cemetery on Friday, July 26th, with Rev. S. T. J. Fortner conducting the burial service. Mr. Hilliard was a son of the late Thomas Hilliard, a native of England, who came to Canada as a boy with his parents and for a time resided in Muddy York. Later he moved to York Township near Emery where Samuel Hilliard was born 72 years ago. Another move was made to Lot 28, Concession 8, Vaughan, where deceased farmed until his death. He was predeceased by his wife several years ago, and surviving are three sons and one daughter, Henry, Herbert, Russell and Mrs. Victor Orr. The pallbearers were residents of Kleinburg district and intimate friends of deceased, they were, Stewart Hawman, John Train, James Coward, Arthur Hambly, John Kellam and John S. Henry. Margaret M. Hunter Hilliard
August 2, 1875 ~ April 8, 1933
The sudden death of Mrs. Samuel Hilliard occurred at her home at Kleinburg on Saturday night last, April 8, 1933. Mrs. Hilliard retired in her apparent usual good health and at 11:30 o’clock had expired. She was Margaret M. Hunter before her marriage, daughter of the late George and Sarah Hunter, natives of Ireland who crossed the Atlantic nearly one hundred years ago and settled at Thornhill where deceased was born, and was in her fifty-sixth year. The funeral took place on Tuesday afternoon, service being conducted in Kleinburg United church with Rev. S. T. J. Fortner officiating. Surviving are her husband, a daughter Gertrude, and three sons, Henry, Russell, and Herb., all at Kleinburg. Richmond Hill Liberal, Apr. 13, 1933.
