Roy Cameron Hunter (1907 ~ 1986)
5.7.2.1. First child of Mary Jane Ferguson and James Hunter, Roy Cameron Hunter, was born June 21, 1907, in W. Luther Twp., Wellington Co., Ontario.
He married Margaret Elizabeth Jane Feairs, daughter of Frederick Feairs and Charlotte May Soper, October 28, 1931, in Arthur, Ontario and had four children:

Roy C. Hunter died March 13, 1986, aged 78 years in Shelburne, Ontario, and M. Elizabeth J. Feairs Hunter died January 23, 2008, aged 92 years in Fergus, Ontario and are interred at Mount Forest Cemetery.

30th Anniversary
Arthur. On Saturday evening approximately 45 relatives gathered to surprise Mr. and Mrs. Roy Hunter, of Monticello, on the occasion of their 30th wedding anniversary.
The evening was spent playing cards, chatting and taking family pictures.
Mr. and Mrs. Hunter have two daughters, Mrs. George McPherson (Lorna) of Grand Valley, and Mrs. Lloyd Hilliard (Marlene) of Bolton, and two sons, George, of Monticello, and Lloyd of Conn. They also have 11 grandchildren.
The bride’s father, Fred Feairs, of Cedarville, was unable to attend but Mrs. Feairs was present for the occasion, along with the brothers and sister of both the bride and bridesgroom of 30 years ago.
The couple received an electric frying pan along with good wishes.
About 11:30 p.m. everyone sat down to a boutiful supper which included an anniversary fruit cake.
Best wishes are extended to the couple for many more years of happy wedded life.
Mr. Hunter is a member of the East Luther Township concil, having been a former reeve of the township, and warden of Dufferin County. Mount Forest Confederate, Oct. 28, 1961.

Roy C. Hunter
Roy Cameron Hunter, a former warden of Dufferin County and for many years a member of East Luther Township Council, died March 13, 1986 at Dufferin Oaks Home for the Aged in Shelburne. Mr. Hunter was in his 79th year.
He served on East Luther Township Council in the 1950s and 1960s as councillor, deputy-reeve and reeve, and was county warden in 1957.
He farmed on the 10th Concession of East Luther Township.
Mr. Hunter is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (Feairs) of Grand Valley; two daughters, Lorna (Mrs. George McPherson) of Grand Valley and Marlene (Mrs. Lloyd Hilliard) of Bolton; two sons, George Hunter of Grand Valley and Lloyd Hunter of Conn; two brothers, Elmer Hunter of Mount Forest and Albert Hunter of Fergus and a sister, Viola (Mrs. E. Bilton) of Mount Forest. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a brother, Harvey, and a sister, Edith.
The funeral service was held at 3 p.m., Saturday, March 15 at the Sime’s Funeral Home, Grand Valley.
Spring interment will be in Mount Forest Cemetery. Mount Forest Confederate, Mar. 22, 1986.
M. Elizabeth J. Feairs Hunter
April 13, 1915 ~ January 23, 2008
In Groves Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, January 23, 2008, Elizabeth (Feairs) Hunter in her 93rd year. Former resident of Grand Valley and since January 2005, of Caressant Care Retirement Home, Arthur. Survived by daughters Lorna McPherson West (Mervin) and Marlene Hilliard of Arthur and sons George (Margaret) of Grand Valley and Lloyd (Esther) of Conn. Also survived by 16 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren. Predeceased by husband Roy and sons-in-law George McPherson and Lloyd Hilliard, four brothers, three sisters and her parents Fred and Charlotte Feairs of Cedarville. Survived by sisters-in-law Josephine Feairs, Evelyn Feairs and Beatrice Hunter. Resting at Simes Funeral Home, Grand Valley where family and friends were received Friday, January 25th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service was held on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Trinity United Church, Grand Valley with visitation one hour prior to service. Frederick Feairs
June 11, 1878 ~ December 27, 1961
A long-time resident of Cedarville and district Frederick Feairs, passed away at Centre Grey Hospital, Markdale, Wednesday, December 27, 1961, in his 84th year.
A long period of declining health followed by a paralytic stroke was borne with much patience and fortitude.
Mr. Feairs was born in England, June 11, 1878, the youngest son of John Feairs and Elizabeth Dorking. While all were quite young the family was orphaned. The eldest, Elizabeth, Mrs. William Fincham, remained in the old land. At the age of eight years Frederick, with his brothers, James and Grimmer, both now deceased, came to Ontario via the Dr. Barnardo homes as had many others. He began a new life in a strange land at Lot 6, Con. 5, Proton.
He attended No. 9 School Endowed with a rich baritone voice, he took part in the choirs of both the former Methodist and Presbyterian Churches. A conscientious workman, he learned the stone mason trade, plying that for many years, but he could do many things well. When unable to do strenuous labour, he took care of the village school for a number of years, and had great pride in gardening.
In 1904 he married Charlotte Soper, who with the family of fours sons and four daughters, survive, namely, James, Cedarville; Edward, Kelvington, Sask.; Russel, Laurel; Wilbert, Mount Forest; Elizabeth, Mrs. Roy Hunter, Monticello; Mildred, Mrs. Bruce Ritchie; Emma, Mrs. Earnest Kerr; Dorothy, Mrs. James Ferguson, all of Mount Forest. There are 34 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Services were held at the Gardiner Funeral Home, Mount Forest, on Saturday, December 30, 1961. They were conducted by the Rev. A. G. Hewitt and the Rev. F. A. Pickering, whose messages of hope were of much comfort to the bereaved. The hymn, "Rock of Ages," was sung by those assembled, while another favourite of the deceased, “Beautiful Isle of Some-where,” was rendered by Mr. Ritchie Stewart.
Besides a great many from the Cedarville, Conn and Mount Forest areas, friends were in attendance from Campbellville, Malton, Hamilton, Monticello, Guelph, Kitchener, Bolton, Dundalk, Durham, Laurel, Woodstock and Neustadt.
Pallbearers were neighbours, John Bell, Finlay Kerr, John McEachern, Elwyn Hockridge, Donald A. Gillies, and Hugh Keith.
A large and beautiful array of floral tributes was carried by grandsons Eddie Ferguson, George Hunter, Wilbert Ritchie, Beverley Feairs, Leverne Ferguson, Robert Kerr.
Committal rites were held in the mortuary chapel at Mount Forest cemetery. Interment will be at Walker’s Cemetery, Proton Township in the Spring. Mount Forest Confederte, Jan. 4, 1962.
Charlotte M. Soper Feairs
May 31, 1886 ~ September 21, 1972
Mrs. Frederick Feairs, a life long resident of Cedarville and area, passed away at Louise Marshall Hospital on Thursday, September 21, 1972, in her 87th year.
Mrs. Feairs was the former Charlotte May Soper, eldest daughter of the late James Soper and his wife, the former Jane Barr, and was born at Lot 16, Concession 9, Proton, May 31, 1886. Following her marriage to Frederick Feairs in 1904 the couple resided at lots 17 and 13, Concession 5, Proton, until 1915 when they moved to the village. Her husband predeceased her in December, 1961, in his 84th year.
Throughout the ups and downs of a long and busy life, Mrs. Feairs, who was known to a wide circle of friends as "Mom" had a cheerful, optimistic outlook and a hopeful faith that prevailed during her long and trying illness. She will be remembered as a devoted mother, a kind and helpful neighbour and friend.
Mrs. Feairs is survived by four sons and four daughters, James, Cedarville; Edward, Kelvington, Sask.; Russell, R.R.2, Laurel; and Bert, Mount Forest; Mildred, Mrs. Bruce Ritchie, Mount Forest; Elizabeth, Mrs. Roy Hunter, Fergus; Emma, Mrs. Ernest Kerr, Mount Forest; Dorothy, Mrs. James Ferguson, Mount Forest; 39 grandchildren and 62 great-grandchildren; and one brother, William Soper, Cedarville.
The largely attended funeral service was held Saturday, September 23, at the Hendrick Funeral Chapel, Mount Forest. Rev. David K. Byrd brought the messages at the service and at the graveside. Interment was in Walker's Cemetery, Proton.
The pallbearers were six grandsons: Wilbert Ritchie, Brian Feairs, Lloyd Hunter, Eddie Ferguson, Arnold Feairs and Robert Kerr.
The flower were borne by six granddaughters, Patricia Feairs, Linda Rice, Brenda Harris, Eleanor Schnurr, Marilyn Craig and Lorna McPherson. Mount Forest Confederate, Oct. 5, 1972.
