Christopher S. Shaw
1810 ~ September 26, 1885
Died at his residence in the township of Collingwood on the morning of the September 25, 1885 in the seventy-fifth year of his age. Mr. Christopher Shaw, Bro. Shaw was born in Binbrook, county of Lincoln, England; emigrated to Canada in 1838; lived in the Gore of Toronto twelve years; came to Collingwood Township where he spent the remainder of his days. Bro. Shaw’s sufferings were long and very severe, but borne with great fortitude and Christian patience. We visited him frequently during his long illness and lawys to our inquiries respecting his health, although often in severe pain, his invariable reply was: “I cannot complain.” He retained his consciousness to the last moments and in answer to his wife’s inquiry, near the last, as to whether he had any doubts or fears, he replied: “No; Christ is my strength and portion.” Bro. Shaw was converted, and joined the Primitive methodist Church about thirty-five years ago, and remained, with a short interval a member of that church until union made him a member of our present Methodist Church. He was a liberal supporter of the Gospel and the ministers always found hearty welcom to his home. Honest and industrious, he was highly respected by all who knew him. His record is on high. He leaves a widow, six sons and three daughters. May they all follow him as he followed Christ, so that in the great reunion beyond the tide not one shall be missing from the family circle. G. W. Steavenson.
Margery McElroy Shaw
1831 ~ February 15, 1901
The death of Mrs. C. S. Shaw, of the 10th Concession of Collingwood township, removes one of the early settlers of the township. The deceased came to Collingwood nearly forty-five years ago, and has resided continuously in it during that time. She had enjoyed good health up to a few weeks ago, when she was taken ill with an attack of la grippe, which resulted in her death early on Friday morning, February 15, 1901. The deceased was universally respected, and was a kind-hearted and obliging lady, and her many kind acts among the neighbours of the section in which she resided will not soon be forgotten, and her removal from the neighbourhood in which she has so long resided will cause deep regret, and teh community will mourn with the bereaved family in her death. In religion Mrs. Shaw was a member of the Methodist church, and was always an active worker until her age prevented it. Collingwood Enterprise-Messenger, Feb. 28, 1901.
